Prior to recording this song together, and I had only ever collaborated remotely, but we’d never actually met each other in person. When I extended an invitation to fly up from SF to join me for a long weekend at my family’s tiny cabin in Shelton WA, I was thrilled she agreed!

So back in January, I drove to the airport to pick up Asia and we hopped aboard a car ferry (her first!) to cross over the sound & made our way to the cabin. Jumping straight into collaboration was surprisingly less weird than you’d imagine…we had worked together previously on two tracks remotely (“Erase Me” & my cover of T.S. “cardigan”) so we had a good working history and knew we could vibe. This trip ignited something in me that I had been missing for a long time; working on music with someone, being in same room, sharing time, space, and energy. Sharing physical space with the person you’re collaborating feels special in a way that sending files back and forth remotely just can’t compete with. I felt a certain spark of creative magic I had been missing, and I hope you feel that too, listening to the track.

Lately I just feel like I’m clinging onto every last drop of summer. Even though August just started, I feel the grains of sand slipping through my fingertips as the days slowly get shorter and the morning air, recently dissipated of smoke from northern summer wildfires, begins to reveal the slightest bit of crispness. As much as I love and appreciate all of the things fall has to offer, it doesn’t hold the same magic as summer does for me. The freedom, the spontaneity, the way the sun’s cosmic energy is ready to greet you the second you wake up—without having to wait, plead, or search for it to arrive.
