Happy 59th birthday to the Washington Karate Association! Today, we reflect on the success of the WKA dojos and the quality that has been instilled in the WKA senseis and students since its beginnings in 1966. Under the leadership of Hanshi Julius Thiry and with his cadre of trusted and loyal black belts, the USA-National Karate-Do Federation was formed, the groundwork was laid for karate to become an Olympic sport, the benchmark for excellence in karate was set high,
and a rigorous standard for the referee corps was established. On behalf of all of your black belts and students nationally and internationally, congratulations and thank you, Hanshi Julius Thiry!

We are happy to announce that as of April, all of our Ballard Dojo Senseis and Remote School Program staff have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. By the end of May, all of our black belts training in person will have completed their vaccinations. In-person classes continue to follow recommended guidelines, including wearing masks and no-contact training. Online classes remain popular and will continue. Looking forward to when we can return to karate without masks and resume contact training! (Physical distancing briefly adjusted for photo)
