SIGNAGE! Let’s talk about it. Ok so we are in Rhodes, and I’m visiting the palace. This sculpture is known as Laocoön and His Sons or The Laocoön group. It is a world famous piece of art by three Rhodesan artists, with several absolutely *extraordinary* features. Excavated in the 1500s, it is thought to be from the 1st century AD. This one is a copy. The original is in the Vatican museum. However, it is something that is part of Rhodes’ history. There was NO MENTION OF IT in the signage! At all! It is life-size! It is full of energy! It is… not important, I guess. At least the docent knew what it was and was happy to discuss it. What a shame.
