Freeway Park Association

The Freeway Park Association seeks to hire a 2026 Photographer in Residence. FPA provides dynamic programs and events for Freeway Park and we like to work with new artists every year who can lend a fresh perspective on the park, its landscape and its visitors as well as capture the many layers of our dynamic events. 2026 is the park’s 50th Anniversary so there are many exciting experiences to document.

Introducing the newest member of our team, Megan Grosse! ✨ Megan is the new FPA Park Operations Coordinator. She comes to us with experience from some other beloved Seattle places like the Monorail and MOHAI where she honed her community outreach skills. 💚 Outside of work Megan loves urban exploring, cheering on women’s sports teams, listening to Bad Bunny, and eating really good food with friends. Megan is looking forward to celebrating Freeway Park’s 50th this year! And showing the community everything this beautiful park has to offer- but especially the fun, free events like movie nights. Come say hi to Megan and welcome her to the neighborhood as we ramp up our programs this month from 12-2 Monday through Friday.

You planted hundreds of new baby plants on Earth Day, now help us give them some nutrients with a nice layer of mulch. Join us on Tuesday, May 19th from 11:30-1pm to lend a hand! Come for as long as you can. Supplies & tools provided. Meet-up in Seneca Plaza @ 600 Seneca Street. Free snacks and Drinks while supplies last. Check back here for weather updates and more details.

Coming right up on May 10th, for Mothers/Mothering Day, we will honor all the mothers and caregivers in our community with a Spring tree tour, gel printing project, live music and free treats for all! Bring your sister, your loving friend, your mom or your kids. All ages seeking a loving, supportive environment with friends are welcome!

At the end of a long day, when the spring leaves are aglow with the low rays of a setting sun, Freeway Park transforms into the urban oasis that it was meant to be. We’ll leave you today with this moment of peace and the hope that the park will continue to thrive with a community of stewards like YOU at the helm. Good night. Love ya! 😘

It’s hard to imagine this scene back in 1976 when the park first opened - but if you know Lawrence Halprin, you know he imagined this park as a place for play and exploration, movement and meetings, “happenings” between neighbors and people just passing through.

Freeway Park is Seattle’s most unique urban park and one of PBS’s “10 parks that changed America”. Designed by Lawrence Halprin & Assoc (led by Angela Danadjieva) to reconnect Seattle neighborhoods across I5, it is widely considered a masterwork of American design and a precedent-setting park that single-handedly defined a new land-use typology for cities everywhere. However, despite its credentials, Freeway Park is still one of Seattle’s best-kept secrets, a hidden gem in the heart of the city.
