Ed Archer

I've been comparing different guitars lately....focusing on the three pictured (plus an old Kramer not pictured)....I've been thinking a lot about 'tonewood'. The guitar on the left has a basswood body core, the middle guitar is ash, and the Jackson on right is mahogany. All three have maple necks (Ibanez has a rosewood fretboard, Frakenstrat is maple on maple, and the Jackson is ebony).

'Tonewood' is a touchy subject to some....one school of thought is that an electric guitar's tone comes only from the pickups/strings/etc and the wood doesn't make a damn bit of difference! The other school of thought is that it does!! :-)

I just finished watching a VERY COOL documentary about a band called Siren that was invited to play the Keep It True festival in Germany, the same as Fifth Angel! Even though the circumstances and 'regrouping' of the band is a bit different, the experience with being in Germany and traveling through Bavaria to Lauda-Königshofen is EXACTLY what I experienced!!

If you've got that time, I'd recommend watching this...and KUDOS to the guys in Siren for having the forethought to capture their experiences on video, and turn it into a movie!! WOW!

This mans musical artistry, coupled with his studio production chops & guitar techniques, and of course the amazing John Paul Jones, John Bonham & Robert Plant...they were all trendsetters and trailblazers!!

I'm always fascinated with the behind-the-scenes inner workings of bands, and this video for Led Zeppelin is wild!!

There's so much more that goes on that the public doesn't know of....especially with the older classic bands....with no internet, we only got info from television, radio, magazines and word-of-mouth...and usually it was framed up to promote the 'image' of how the band wanted to be seen (or what management/marketing felt was best).
