Instead of taking his normal day off Tuesday, Uttam Mukherjee spent the day preparing meals to hand out to people impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Mukherjee owns Spice Waala, an Indian street food restaurant in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood. "We’re trying to help a couple of people," Mukherjee said. We have launched stories of hope on our new site https://seattlehumanity.com. Including Eden Hill Restaurant auctioning off $8000 private dinners and giving all that money to employees as bonuses. Tom Douglas Restaurants turning their Ballard warehouse into a drive-thru with all proceeds going to Food Lifeline. And Belltown Pizza covering vandalism with art. . Share your stories of hope in these dark times with us!
I'm proud to be teming up with Aaron R. F. Anderson, Sam Lewis, Kyle Frederickson, Cal McAllister, and Deanna Rivaldo on the project. The bigger project is documenting this unprecedented time. And SeattleHumanity.com will highlight the stories of hope we find along the way.
Stories of the best in people in dark times Belltown Pizza made the tough decision, like so many other local restaurants, to close down during this COVID-19 pandemic. Co-owner Brian Lee boarded up the windows along 1st and Wall in Seattle, WA, to prevent vandalism. Over the weekend someone tagged the whole building with graffiti.
These dark times are also bringing out the best in people. I've started a project working with some filmmakers and business leaders, SeattleHumanity.com. It's a documentary style project which is also highlighting the beautiful stories rising from the COVID-19 pandemic. This example I found today at Belltown Pizza is a prime example. When someone vandalized the boarded-up windows, co-owner Brian Lee decided not to get mad. Instead he invited local artists to use the boards as their canvas, and they're creating beautiful works of art.
