The Northwest Power and Conservation Council (NPCC) is finalizing its Ninth Power Plan—a regional blueprint that will shape how energy is generated, used, and conserved through 2046.

The draft plan is on the right track, but we need to urge the Council to do more to ensure a healthy, livable future for our communities, climate, and salmon.

There are just two public hearings left. Let’s make them count!

💻 10/1: Virtual Public Hearing
Held via Zoom from 4:00–6:00pm. If you’re not local to Seattle, this is your final chance to weigh in through public testimony.

Urge the Council to invest in clean energy, incentivize efficiency through programs like demand response, and prioritize salmon recovery rather than building new fossil fuel infrastructure.

10/7: Seattle Public Hearing
The Council’s final public hearing will be held at Seattle University on Wednesday, October 7—and we need you there with us! In-person testimony is one of the most impactful ways members of the public can weigh in on the plan.

New to public testimony? We’ve got you covered!

On Wednesday (9/30), we’re hosting a Seattle Social + Testimony Prep Session at Rein Haus in Capitol Hill from 7:00–8:30pm.

Come early, swing by late, head out early, close it down—just show up and hang out! We’ll have free dinner, an overview of the Ninth Power Plan, a rundown of the key issues we’re advocating around, and a walkthrough of how to prepare and deliver effective public testimony.

Whether you’ve testified before or this is your first time, you’ll leave feeling prepared and confident to make your voice heard.

Registration for the hearings, Seattle Social, and resources to learn more + help you draft effective testimony are all at the link in our bio!

The Northwest Power and Conservation Council is finalizing its Ninth Power Plan, a regional blueprint for how we’ll meet our energy needs through 2046.

And it comes at a pivotal time as demand is surging ⚡ Our region could need enough additional electricity to power up to 18 times as many customers as Seattle City Light serves today. 🤯

The choices we make now will determine whether we meet that demand with clean, affordable energy that protects our climate and local ecosystems… or commit to even more fossil fuel infrastructure 👎🏼

The draft plan is out. Now it’s our chance to speak up.

📣 Join us for the Seattle public hearing on Wednesday, October 7! Public testimony is one of the most meaningful ways to influence the plan.

New to public testimony? Or just looking to hang out with some cool, like minded folks, and enjoy a free dinner? We’ve got you covered! Join us one week before the hearing, on September 30 at Rein Haus in Capitol Hill to learn about the Ninth Power Plan, our priorities, and how to deliver effective testimony.

🍁 Fall foliage, mountain views, and public lands action? Count us in!

Join us this Sunday for a special Roadless Action Outing to Ptarmigan Ridge with our Mt. Baker Group! We’ll meet at the Artist Point parking lot at 10am and hit the trail together while learning how you can speak up for the Roadless Rule and the wild places it protects.

(Plus—We will also have t-shirts for everyone, so you can wear your love for roadless forests loud and proud!)

Register at the link in our bio or visit sierraclub.org/washington/calendar

By now, you’ve probably been hearing a lot about the proposed rescission of the Roadless Rule—and for good reason. Ptarmigan Ridge and tens of thousands of miles of other trails like it across the country are at risk! The Trump administration wants to rescind this critical safeguard to open some of our most beloved national forest lands to road construction, logging, drilling, and mining.

The public comment period is open through October 6, giving all of us a chance to speak up for the forests, wildlife, clean water, and outdoor places we love. Let’s make sure our voices are too loud to ignore! 🌲🫸🚜 Take action: sc.org/roadlessrule

Two Energy Decisions. One Chance to Get It Right. Join Us on 9/22 to Learn How.

Right now, we have not one, but two big opportunities to choose clean, renewable, and affordable energy.

The Northwest Power and Conservation Council (NPCC) is drafting its Ninth Power Plan, a 20-year roadmap for how Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana will generate, use, and conserve energy. While the draft is on the right track, we can and must do better. We need as many people as possible to advocate for energy conservation programs like demand response and stronger accountability for energy-hungry data centers, helping ensure clean, affordable, and reliable energy for everyone. And because the Ninth Power Plan will also guide how the Columbia and Snake River dams are operated, the stakes are high for salmon, too.

Meanwhile, Puget Sound Energy (PSE) is in the midst of a rate case before the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (UTC) that will determine whether it can raise customer bills by upwards of 30% to fund a slew of new fossil fuel projects. We can prevent PSE from locking Washington into decades of fossil fuel pollution and costly infrastructure.

These are two major decisions that will shape our climate, our utility bills, and the future of salmon across the Pacific Northwest for decades to come. Join us on Tuesday, 9/22 at 4pm for our Energy Crossroads Webinar! Register at the link in our bio.

An update from our Press Release last week regarding the ICE raid USFS aided with in Mt Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest over Labor Day weekend—

We are still waiting for answers as to why USFS is harassing the public on our public lands. The raid here in Washington came just weeks after the Sierra Club North Carolina Chapter condemned a similar operation in Pisgah National Forest that resulted in 13 arrests. This is unacceptable. Everyone belongs in the outdoors. Everyone deserves to feel and be safe whilst enjoying our public lands.

Meanwhile, five local families have suddenly lost the people who financially support them. If you're able, please consider donating to help cover their legal fees and living expenses. Their GoFundMe is linked in our bio, or you can use this link: GoFund.Me/35AB08072

Keep looking out for one another 💚
