Nearly all students in America do some sort of prep for the SAT/ACT, so be sure you do, too. You don't want to send in raw scores against everyone else's prepped scores. We just do not know the status of testing at this point due to coronavirus. Tests should be optional when you are applying, but to be safe, check. If needed, prepare!

DYK that select colleges offer online classes which students can take while still in high school. Many of these programs are dual enrollment, meaning that students can receive credit toward both their high school and college degrees concurrently. Learn more - http://ow.ly/IWQT50HUOVL

Be sure to start your resume on CollegeMapper by downloading our resume outline and save it to your laptop. Update it each month now so that it is ready to go when you have a college interview and when you do your applications. Your completed resume *really* helps you apply with less stress and better results. Seniors every year tell me to make sure to have Juniors do this.

DYK that you should join the mailing lists for all colleges you plan to apply to. This is an important step because it keeps you in the loop for announcements and especially info on when the college visits your city. It also shows the college that you are interested and that is an extra point in your favor. You join the website on the Admissions page of each college. Have a professional sounding (boring) email to use!

While applying to schools (and potential jobs) it is very important that students keep their Instagram clean and avoid ever posting anything they wouldn't want Grandma to see...

All students should get involved in school by joining 2-3 activities--even online--at least one of which is in/at school so that kids can make friends and feel connected.

This is a great time to start planning your summer! We are cautiously optimistic that in-person programs will be more widely available in 2022 than in 2021, along with a growing number of virtual programs.
We have an excellent directory of programs on CollegeMapper!

Pre-college programs are awesome! They are typically held on a college campus during the summer, and they can last from a few days to several weeks. Colleges often offer these programs to provide extra educational opportunities to high school students, opportunities that you cannot get at your high school. In this way, you can learn about totally new subjects, or you can gain extra skills to improve your high school performance.
