Still skipping Riesling because you think it’s sweet? That reputation has a very specific origin—and it has nothing to do with the grape itself. Here’s how to read the label, pick the right style, and finally order it with confidence.
Riesling: Sweet or Dry? The Label Guide You Actually Need — Anchored Vines Riesling isn’t the sweet wine its reputation suggests. Here’s how to read labels, pick the right style, and find the bottle that changes your mind.

International Chardonnay Day deserves more than tired clichés about “buttery whites.” Chardonnay is one of the most transparent grapes in the world — capable of expressing place, climate, texture, and winemaking philosophy with incredible range. From razor-sharp Chablis to rich Napa Valley bottlings, from mineral-driven cool-climate styles to elegant méthode traditionnelle sparkling wine, Chardonnay remains one of wine’s most versatile and compelling varietals.
Tonight calls for a great bottle, a proper glass, and a reminder of why Chardonnay became iconic in the first place. 🍷

Same grape, two completely different wines — and most people have no idea. Whether you're reaching for Italian crispness, Alsatian richness, or Oregon's middle ground, knowing the difference changes how you shop and what you order. Quick breakdown on the blog.

Real Chablis isn’t the stuff that came in a gallon jug. It’s bone-dry Chardonnay grown on fossilized oyster shells in northern Burgundy—and it might be the most food-friendly white wine you’ve been skipping.

Pinot Grigio is often underestimated — and that’s exactly what makes a great one so satisfying.
As a sommelier, I love wines that know their role at the table. Pinot Grigio isn’t trying to overpower the meal. It brings lift, freshness, and precision. Think crisp pear, lemon zest, white flowers, and that clean mineral edge that keeps you reaching for another sip.
The best examples aren’t simple — they’re restrained. Balanced acidity, subtle texture, and quiet elegance. Perfect with oysters, fresh seafood, light pasta, patio afternoons, and conversations that go long after sunset.
Today is for the bottles that remind us that subtlety can still be unforgettable.
Happy Pinot Grigio Day. 🍋🥂

You’ve been drinking Tempranillo at every Spanish restaurant for years — Rioja is the region, Tempranillo is the grape, and the label almost never says so. Once you know the aging tiers, you’ll stop buying blind.
Tempranillo Wine: Rioja’s Hidden Grape Finally Explained — Anchored Vines Rioja is the region. Tempranillo is the grape. Spain’s flagship red hides in plain sight — here’s what’s in the bottle and how to buy smarter.

You've blamed sulfites for your red wine headache for years. Here's the problem: white wine usually has more of them — and nobody complains about white wine headaches. So what's actually going on in the glass? Recent research points somewhere unexpected. www.anchoredvines.com/tasting-truths/its-probably-not-the-sulfites-whats-actually-behind-your-wine-headache

World Moscato Day calls for something a little less serious and a lot more joyful. 🍇🥂
Fresh florals, ripe peach, citrus blossom, and just enough sweetness to keep every sip approachable — Moscato remains one of wine’s most misunderstood styles. Whether sparkling, still, or lightly frizzante, great Moscato balances vibrant fruit with refreshing acidity, making it perfect for brunches, patios, spicy food, and warm spring evenings.
Today, skip the wine rules. Chill it well, pour generously, and enjoy the wine that reminds us wine is supposed to be fun.
Happy World Moscato Day from Anchored Vines.

Happy International Sauvignon Blanc Day! Affectionately known as "Sauvy B", Few varieties articulate terroir with such clarity. In Sancerre, expect cut stone, citrus oil, and a restrained, mineral spine. From Marlborough, the profile shifts to high-toned aromatics—passionfruit, lime leaf, and a piercing acidity. In Napa Valley, the grape broadens: riper orchard fruit, subtle tropical notes, sometimes layered with texture from lees or oak.
Service matters:
• 45–50°F to preserve aromatic lift without muting structure
• Medium-sized white wine stem to focus intensity
• Decant selectively—structured or reductive examples can benefit
Pairing is driven by acidity and aromatic affinity:
• Chèvre, oysters, or shellfish
• Green vegetables—spring peas, asparagus, herbs
• High-acid vinaigrettes that would flatten softer whites
Sauvignon Blanc is not about weight—it’s about tension, energy, and line.
