The Pyramids of Güímar

The Pyramids of Güímar located in the town of Güímar on the island of Tenerife in the Canary Islands, Spain, are a set of six rectangular, terraced structures built from lava stone without the use of mortar.

The origins and purpose of these pyramids are subjects of debate among historians and archaeologists. Some theories suggest they were built by the Guanches, the indigenous people of the Canary Islands, possibly as agricultural terraces.

There are several intriguing theories and stories surrounding the Pyramids of Güímar:

Astronomical Observatories: Some researchers believe the pyramids were used as astronomical observatories. The structures are aligned with the summer and winter solstices, which suggests they may have had an astronomical or ceremonial purpose.

Religious Sanctuaries: Another theory is that the pyramids served as religious sanctuaries for the Guanches.

Thor Heyerdahl’s Research: The Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl, known for his Kon-Tiki expedition, studied the pyramids extensively. He believed they were connected to ancient civilizations and human migration patterns.

Pre-Hispanic Origin: Some researchers, including Heyerdahl, have suggested that the pyramids predate the Spanish conquest of the Canary Islands in the 15th century. This theory posits that they were built by the Guanches, the original inhabitants of the islands, possibly for ceremonial or astronomical purposes

Masonic Connection: Another intriguing theory links the pyramids to Freemasonry. Some researchers have noted similarities between the layout of the Güímar complex and Masonic symbolism, suggesting that the structures might have been built by Freemasons or influenced by Masonic ideas

The Enduring Enigma of Easter Island's Moai

Easter Island, a remote Polynesian island in the southeastern Pacific Ocean, is home to a captivating mystery: the monumental Moai statues. These enigmatic figures, with their elongated heads, stoic expressions, and imposing presence, have captivated explorers and researchers for centuries.

Practically everyone has seen the iconic images of the Easter Island heads. What you may not have known is that those Easter Island heads actually have hidden buried bodies. Archaeologists have uncovered the bodies associated with the heads and found interesting discoveries.

A team of archaeologists at UCLA developed the Easter Island Statue Project to better study and preserve the artifacts. Through this work, the team excavated several of the heads to reveal the underlying torso and body.

In total, the team documented and studied almost 1,000 statues on the small Pacific Island. The project spanned 9 years whereby the team determined to the best of their ability the meaning, function and history of each individual statue.

Who Built Them?

The Moai were created by the Rapa Nui people, the indigenous Polynesian inhabitants of Easter Island. They arrived on the island sometime between the 9th and 12th centuries AD, bringing their culture, language, and a remarkable ability to sculpt monumental statues.

Why Are They There?

The exact purpose of the Moai remains a subject of debate, but prevailing theories suggest they were:

Symbolic Representations: The statues may have been representations of ancestors, or important figures, serving as a powerful symbol of power and identity, They were symbols of religious and political authority and power, representing former tribal chiefs. To the Rapa Nui people, the Moai are also believed to be the actual repositories of sacred spirits, and the embodiment of their ancient ancestors.

Spiritual Guardians: They could have been positioned to watch over and protect the island and its people.

Markers of Territory: Some believe the Moai were used to delineate land boundaries or mark important sites.

Mysterious Theories and Stories:

The Moai have also inspired numerous theories and myths, adding to their enigmatic allure:

Alien Intervention: Some speculate that the Moai were built by extraterrestrials, citing their advanced construction and the seeming impossibility of moving such massive figures.

Lost Civilization: Others believe that the Moai are remnants of a highly advanced civilization that disappeared from the island, leaving behind only these incredible monuments.

Lost Knowledge: The Moai's construction and transportation techniques are still not fully understood. Many theories suggest that the Rapa Nui people possessed unique knowledge and skills that were lost over time.

While definitive answers remain elusive, the Moai of Easter Island continue to fascinate and intrigue. Their enduring presence is a testament to the ingenuity and cultural significance of the Rapa Nui people, and the mystery they embody serves as a reminder of the enduring power of human creativity and the mysteries of the past.

Dressing for the Divine - George Freeman 02/26/2024

In a world hurtling towards chaos and teetering on the brink of collapse, we’re left reviewing the rituals and customs ingrained in our societies to find what brings us into the future and what’s holding us back. One practice holding us back is our devotion to dressing up for the divine and the fairytale “hereafter.”

Dressing for the Divine - George Freeman We must challenge the notion of dressing for the divine and all the practices that don't serve us. Why dress for a god you can't prove exists? When "We Are All Children of the Same Universe."
