Did you know that, on top of writing books and a 12,000 sq ft science exhibit, I have scripted, plotted, and/or co-developed several video games?

At one point, I was on track to become a Narrative Designer in the gaming industry, briefly working with Jim Hawk (Group Business Manager, Microsoft Game Studios) and garnering real interest from NCSoft.

Hopefully I can get back into the videogame game with transmedia offshoots of future books! :)

Past Gaming Projects Include:

Riley's World - Browser-Based MMO
An interactive, science-based virtual world for children featuring a scaled 3-D representation of Earth and its major ecological systems, plus an augmented reality component. Plotting, Scripting, Playable Demo, and Game Design Document developed in partnership with Silverlode Interactive (makers of SAGA MMO and creators of The Outpost TV series on the CW). Project cancelled due to 2008 recession.

Jaguar Jungle - Nintendo Wii/DS
A third-person Nintendo Wii and DS adventure game set in the Amazon rainforest where cel-shaded animated players would seamlessly interact with photo-realistic wildlife and environments. Think: Tomb Raider meets The Discovery Channel. Game Design Document developed with Games Factory Online and BrandX Games. Project cancelled due to 2008 recession.

Borgo Blitz - Phone/PC Gaming App
An arcade-style adventure/flying game for iPhone, Android, and PC. Based on an Australian book and snack IP, players had to sn**ch food boxes out of the sky with their gliders while avoiding the evil General Borgo and his flying robots. Game Development, Scripting, and Branding was done with Augment Works. The game is no longer playable on current smartphones, but appears to still be available on PC.

That's a pretty unique direction to take. Not sure I can remember any other major authors taking their established characters into parallel timelines like that.

It’s been 15 years since “Divergent” published, but Veronica Roth isn’t done with Tris quite yet.

The bestselling dystopian author announced at BookCon on April 18 she’s written a new companion duology set in an alternate timeline to “Divergent.” What if Tris hadn’t transferred to Dauntless, the faction of bravery?

“Not a prequel, not a sequel, not a spinoff, not a different POV but an alternate universe of ‘Divergent’ where Tris chooses a different faction,” Roth tells USA TODAY in an interview before BookCon. “I think the question of ‘who is Tris without Dauntless’ is an interesting one.”

“The Sixth Faction” is out Oct. 6.

That time I single-handedly designed a 5,000 square foot traveling science exhibit for Eaglemont Press in partnership with the Smithsonian Institution. (Initially called "Biome Trek", then later renamed to "Expedition Earth".)

I concepted the entire experience, as well as researched, developed, and wrote the content for all of the stations, activities (30+), signs/panels (100+), and on-brand story adventures.

I was in contact with several of the Smithsonian's top wildlife scientists throughout, including Don Wilson (Animal: The Definitive Visual Guide to the World's Wildlife), who vetted my work while adding in the latest scientific data from the field.

The graphics were handled by the incomparable Robert Payne (https://payne-design.com), while all of the manufacturing, management, and booking/touring was done by NRG! Exhibits.

Sadly, the publisher closed its doors just as the exhibit was being completed, and the rights to the entire thing were handed off to NRG! Exhibits.

After which, I no longer had any connection to the project. Which was a shame, but that's how it goes sometimes in this line of work.
