Member Appreciation: Kevin DšŖ
Kevin has been part of the SSP community for three years, He truly represents Core Value #3: Moving Better = Feeling Better, showing how consistent strength training can positively impact not only physical health, but overall quality of life.
Hereās what Kevin had to say about his experience at SSP:
āIāve been a member of SSP for three years, and itās been an incredibly rewarding experience. The personal trainers have played a huge role in helping me fight back from some health challenges and rebuild my strength and confidence, always bringing a high level of knowledge, encouragement, and consistency. Iāve seen steady, meaningful progress over time, and itās clear theyāre genuinely invested in helping each member succeed.
What keeps me coming back is the combination of expert coaching and the overall atmosphere of the gym. SSP stands out as a supportive, judgment-free space with a really friendly atmosphere that makes it a great place to train and stay consistent. The trainers do a great job of meeting you where you are and adapting workouts to fit your needs, which has made all the difference for me. Itās a place where you can focus on getting better, feel supported along the way, and actually enjoy the process.ā
From Coach Taylor:
Iāve had the privilege of training Kevin for the past two years, and seeing his consistent progress has been so rewarding. Kevin shows up ready to work, trusts the process, and continues to get stronger and more confident with every phase of training. His journey is such a great example of what can happen when you stay consistent and prioritize your health over the long term.
Weāre so grateful to have you as part of the SSP community, Kevin. Keep crushing it šŖāØ

April Member Appreciation: Tanner O ā°ļøšŖ
Tanner has been part of our Phinney Ridge community for a year now, and itās safe to say - SSP is better with him in it. He brings elite energy into every session (and yes⦠extra points for his music taste š¶).
Tanner is a perfect example of Core Value #3: Moving Better = Feeling Better. He doesnāt just train for the gym, he trains for life. He has summited Mt. Rainier (twice š³), & the work he puts in here shows up everywhere else.
Hereās what Tanner had to say about SSP:
āWhat keeps me coming back to SSP Phinney is the way the training translates so seamlessly into the rest of my life. The coaches have helped revitalize my relationship with functional strength, giving me the confidence and physical durability that carry over directly to my goals, be it climbing mountains, long MTB rides, or hikes of any length. It isnāt just about the hours spent in the gym; The grouped personal training setting allows me to create lasting relationships with the coaches and members and acts as a reliable reset that clears my head after hours of deep technical work. As I transition out of my masterās, back into my career and beyond, I know I can lean on the SSP crew to provide community, pick up the pace, and keep me pushing!ā
From our side, Tanner is a total energy driver. He shows up ready to work, lifts up the people around him, and brings a vibe that makes every session better.
Weāre lucky to have you, Tanner. Keep chasing big goals and bringing that energy to every session! š„
Itās officially Q2 and you know what that means - time for a mobility movement refresh! The Mobility Queen herself, Coach Marci is here to help you understand the form, purpose, and intention behind these new movements!
Youāre a rockstar! Yesā¦
Mobility is a must for quality movement. Each of these mobility movements will open up each major joint in your body to help you move with efficacy under load. The quality of your workout is dependent on the quality of your effort during your movement prep, so be sure to perform these with intention for optimal benefit!
MOBILITY MARCH IS BACK! This week the focus is on the upper back or thoracic spine area!
From Coach Marci on why T Spine mobility is so important:
Thoracic mobility is essential to general movement pattern efficiency and functional strength. Whatās more, being able to dissociate and stabilize your lumbar while mobilizing your t-spine is key in sustained progress and strength training safety. If you canāt separate those two areas of the spine, youāre likely missing opportunities to get over a plateau, as well as potentially putting yourself at greater risk for injury. These drills are used to get you moving with efficacy and keeping you moving long-term!
Thanks Coach Marci for your expertise š¤

Member Appreciation: āØJen S & Ben M āØ
Jen and Ben are such special additions to the SSP community. From the moment they walked through our doors, theyāve shown up with positive energy, open hearts, and a genuine excitement to be here. They truly embody Core Value #2: Community is Everything, bringing warmth, connection, and encouragement into every session.
Hereās what Ben had to say about his experience at SSP:
āSSP has been exactly what I was looking for in a workout routine. It is structured, tailored to my specific goals, and fun! The coaches are incredibly supportive and provide great feedback to ensure I perform movements correctly and get the most out of my workouts. I also really value the ālocalā feel of the gym - itās been great to meet people who live in the neighborhood, which Iāve never gotten from a typical gym setting before.
Since starting at SSP, Iāve seen a significant increase in my stamina and strength, while challenging myself every time I work out. Whether itās picking up my 18-month-old daughter, walking around Green Lake, or just having more energy throughout the day, the results have been amazing. :)ā
And from Jen:
āOne of the best decisions Iāve made postpartum: training at SSP! The supportive community and encouraging coaches make every session something I actually look forward to. I love that my workouts are personalized to my needs while training in a space with all different abilities. Watching myself grow stronger, lift heavier, and conquer movements I never thought I could have been such a confidence boost. SSP has made fitness fun, sustainable, and empowering again.ā
From a coaching perspective, we couldnāt agree more, Jen and Ben bring such great energy into every session, are always eager to connect with other members, and make the gym feel even more like home. And letās be honest, having them and their daughter at community events is always a highlight š„°
Weāre so grateful to have you both as part of the SSP family. Cheers to strength, community, and showing up together šŖāØ
One of the most common questions we get this time of year is: āDo you see a ton of people join on January 1⦠who then disappear by February?ā
And honestly? The answer is no.
Thatās one of the biggest differences between a training gym like SSP and a traditional big-box gym.
At most gyms, January is fueled by motivation - new year energy, big goals, good intentions. But motivation fades, life gets busy, and without structure or accountability, people quietly drop off.
At SSP, progress isnāt built on hype - itās built on consistency, coaching, and accountability.
You have:
A coach who knows your name, your goals, and your history
A training plan designed for you, not a generic template
A schedule and expectation that keeps you showing up
A community that notices when youāre there and when youāre not
Thatās why people donāt just start here⦠they stay. Not because every workout is easy. Not because motivation is always high. But because the system works even when that early year motivation wears off.
If youāre training with us right now, youāre already doing the hardest part: showing up consistently and investing in yourself. Thatās something to be proud of.
And if youāre newer here, welcome - youāre in the right place to build something that actually lasts beyond January.
Ready to join a community of coaches and members who will keep you accountable and having fun every time you come to the gym? Reply back and weāll send you all the details!
Hey Team! Coach Alex is back with a new warm up for the New Year. Your January mobility is Cat/Cows, Floor Slides, plus a new stability move: the Single Leg Deadlift with Reach. Hereās why we chose them š
Cat/Cows move the spine through flexion and extension - key for spinal health, especially if youāre sitting a lot. Our spines love movement in all directions. You can even add side-to-side bends for lateral mobility or belly rolls for gentle spinal rotation.
Floor Slides help improve shoulder mobility and mechanics by building scapular control and thoracic extension - huge for healthy overhead positions!
The Single Leg Deadlift with Reach challenges balance and hip stability/control while reinforcing strong hinge mechanics, making it a great way to wake up the posterior chain and prep your body for training.
Mobility training, such as these exercises, are essential for maintaining joint health and preventing injuries. Think of mobility as the oil that primes your muscles for the gym. Youāll see these new moves added into our warm ups for personal training, but feel free to try these at home!

āļø Member Appreciation December: Arissa Peterson & Nick Papa āļø
Nick and Arissa bring such a special energy to SSP. Together, they truly embody Core Value #1: Strength Training Is for Everybody! Showing that strength looks different for everyone and that consistency, support, and community make all the difference.
Arissa shows up to every session with a smile, an open mind, and a willingness to try anything. Her positive energy is contagious, and she has a natural way of connecting with everyone around her. Whether sheās moving through a tough workout, or chatting about her latest home project, Arissa brings joy, curiosity, and heart into the gym.
Nick is a great example of training with purpose and intention. Earlier this year, he won the Australian Rules Football National Championship, and he continues to put in thoughtful, consistent work to stay competitive against athletes much younger than him. His dedication, coachability, and steady effort are inspiring to both coaches and members alike.
Hereās what Arissa had to say about her SSP experience:
āSince working with SSP, I have noticed an increase in strength, stamina, and overall flexibility. I didnāt have a specific fitness goal in mind when joining other than feeling stronger and having more energy. Now, everyday tasks just seem easier, from carrying groceries from the car, to yardwork or doing housework. I have had some injuries since joining, but the SSP coaches have modified my workouts to meet me where I am at. My favorite thing about SSP is the community and support within the gym. I get to carve out this time during the week to focus on myself, show up, and have the training already planned for me, while socializing with others in a kind and welcoming environment.ā
