Bottom Line fused pop-punk energy with genre-bending ambition.

In the wake of their 2002 full-length debut, 2005’s Eloquence defined their sound—leading to Warped Tour runs, major label sessions, and lasting underground impact.

Happy Day to all who celebrate! If you’re seeing this, I’m sure you already are! Go wish Dan, Bottom Line’s resident “Yeah!” man, a Happy Birthday today and follow it up with spinning some of his greatest moments on Eloquence. Dan’s “Dorm Room Demo” of False Alarm was one of our favorite rarities that we included on the Anniversary Deluxe recently. One of my favorite parts of being in a band with him was building unnecessary 15-part harmonies together (that hardly anyone can hear in the final mixes 😆). He remains a formidable beast of guitar and vocal, nonetheless!

“Couldn’t ask for a BETTER ONE if we tried!” IYKYK 😆

Even when we wanted to pull our hair out, we still managed to have fun with it. I was tempted to put the whole compilation of takes on here from our old website blogs, but we’ll save that for a rainy day.

January 7, 2006 - Seattle, WA @ Showbox w/ Reel Big Fish, Goldfinger, & Zebrahead

I had an emergency root canal 🦷 in Portland two days prior to this, which happened hours before we hit the stage for the first show of the Deep Freeze Tour. I’m sure this set pictured here in Seattle was noticeably more rockin’ since I was on 100% less pain killers, but I still have zero recollection of it 😅. I remember bumming around the fish market, though! - Ben

Who remembers the nascent podcasting days, where legends like would platform complete unknowns like ? We were having a very confusing year, primarily because our label at the time was cock-blocking our every move, but getting a phone call from one of our musical heroes—and hearing him tell the world our song Nothing Is Real is cool—was definitely a major highlight of 2006! Thanks, Mark!

Of course, shoutout to for connecting the dots to make this happen in the first place and .zachwiler for making this rad video!

Spicy chicken sandwiches at 12:45am cured many a hair-pulling-out meltdown over our tech limitations back in the day! Drove us absolutely batty, but at least we could laugh about it 😅

Bottom Line’s Eloquence 20th Anniversary Deluxe is streaming wherever music exists for you these days!

June 16, 2006 - of us ripping Nothing Is Real @ Agora Ballroom in Cleveland with a ton of bands, but notably headlined by ! This was a weird yet cool show. Which is perfect for us, because we were a weird yet cool band having the weirdest yet not-coolest year ever.

This was squarely in our “wtf are we even promoting?” era: One year removed from Eloquence hitting shelves, which was 2 years from finishing it. Plus, 9 months or so months after finishing our Maverick debut, which was being held hostage at the label.

You’re probably asking, “Ben, did you ever fear for your life, with ’s PRS headstock whipping 360s that close to your jugular on stage?” Why, yes. Yes, I did. But every show was like another bandmate trust-fall exercise. Plus, who needs a stage fan when you have cyclone gusts left and right? 🌪️😜

Ever been confused what the lyrics to these songs are? Well, this post won’t help 😆. We found some early hand-written lyric drafts recently.

I distinctly remember writing some of Follow Me (called ‘Silhouette’ at the time) with on the plane to Japan in Dec 2002. I also remember laying on the floor of our practice house writing Blind lyrics (probably on this very sheet of paper!) while Cliff played Super Mario Bros. 2 🕹️

Demos to all 3 of these songs are now streaming as part of Eloquence 20th Anniversary Deluxe!

We’ve all got our favs—but which track on Eloquence was the most underrated?
