recently posted about a built that almost broke him. This is my build that almost broke me. What I thought would take a little over a week took almost two months. Some of that time was from attending to family matters, or recovering from the emotional and physical drain of sed matters. Even without factoring in that time away it still would have take at least a month to build.
I had a lot of firsts on this build. First time building traditional muntins, first time making glue chipped glass. I had to completely rebuild my muntins, because the first set just didn’t look right. Between clumsiness and unknown factors I had to make 14 panes glue chipped pieces of glass to get my 9 panes. There were times I wanted to call it, return their deposit because I didn’t think I was good enough. Yet I persisted, and I’m glad I did. Ann and Miles are in love with the door. I see every flaw in it, I even started dreaming of it. But once installed I was able to step back and see its beauty. So for anyone that is struggling, just keep pushing through.

I finally mostly finished the turtle shaped jewelry box I made for my girlfriend’s birthday… a year later. What’s the saying, “a cobblers children always go without shoes?” This weekend we have to go to the fabric store to pick out a liner material. I’ll grab some better photos once it’s lined.

A set of floating shelves and mantle cover I made recently. They love them so much they want matching tops for the cabinets as well.

Do I feel guilty playing hooky from work when there is a project that I could be working on, yes, but sometimes you have to make time for family and fun. So I skipped work today and we went to Antman and the Wasp this afternoon.

The Shield is all put together. Next move is to put a oil wax mixture on it and attach a shoulder strap. After that it’ll be ready to go down the road.

Now it’s starting to look like a Viking shield. Tomorrow I’ll nail on the boss and handle, then I’ll have to let it sit for a few days before I can put an oil/wax finish on it.

I got the leather edge stretched, sewn, and glued Friday. It’s been sitting drying all weekend and I’m excited to see it Monday morning. Hopefully I can’t give it a sanding and start painting it.
Happy 🦃 Day eveyone.
