While we've been hard at work providing academic support to our students, our social media engagement has been flagging. But we won't miss the opportunity to share this great band shot from a recent tutor get-together. From left to right, that's Jonathan, Stephen, Ivy, Rowan, and Cameron. Looking good!

A warm welcome back to classes to all the SPS students, teachers, and staff who had their first day today!

And in the spirit of welcoming, we’d like to welcome Rowan to our small but growing team of tutors at Write Seattle. Rowan was a middle-school ELA teacher in the Highland and Renton School Districts for the last four years and spent the last three of those in a full-time position teaching 7th graders at Dimmitt Middle School. She’s decided to make a career adjustment but wants to stay in education and absolutely cannot go without teaching in some form, so Write Seattle has been an ideal landing spot for her. She’s garnered outstanding feedback from the parents of students she’s worked with thus far. We feel incredibly lucky to have her!

In the Fight Over How to Teach Reading, This Guru Makes a Major Retreat 05/22/2022

Outstanding New York Times article charting the debate over the use of phonics in teaching kids how to read. Key takeaways: different kids learn in different ways, and educators need to keep abreast of pedagogical research and stay open to new findings.

In the Fight Over How to Teach Reading, This Guru Makes a Major Retreat Lucy Calkins, a leading literacy expert, has rewritten her curriculum to include a fuller embrace of phonics and the science of reading. Critics may not be appeased.

Lila struggled to write, then a teacher discovered why and unlocked her creativity 05/03/2022

Nice story from KUOW yesterday about using speech-to-text software to unlock the writing potential of a student with dysgraphia. Way to go Valerie and Lila!

This is a picture of Jesse. She rocks. She attended University Prep for middle and high school here in Seattle, then moved to Chicago to study literature and theatre at the University of Chicago. But now she's back, and Seattle is lucky to have her!

On our website, www.writeseattle.com, you may notice that we offer public speaking tutoring. That's all Jesse. In addition to being an outstanding teacher of writing, reading, and study skills, Jesse helps students improve on presentations and speeches! Really, we should be called Write & Read & Speak Seattle (& Organize & Prepare For Tests & Improve Your Grades). But maybe that doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

Want to learn more about Jesse? Visit our website, www.writeseattle.com, or just give us a call at 206-960-8047.

This is a picture of me, Stephen. I moved to Seattle in 2016 to do a master's degree in creative writing at the University of Washington, met my wife here, and now am happy to call this great city home. I'm originally from Canada, which people often notice after talking to me for a few minutes.

Are you curious about what I sound I like? Want to hear me pronounce the word "about"? Here's my phone number: 206-960-8047. Give me a call!

p.s. You can find a lot more information about me on our website, www.writeseattle.com

Hello and welcome to our first official Facebook post! We are new to social media but not to tutoring 🙃 It'll be me, Stephen, running this page, and I don't much post on Facebook in my regular life, so buckle up!
