Why mulch?

- Mulch will reduce the amount of water that evaporates from your soil, greatly reducing your need to water your plants.
- It also improves the quality of your soil by breaking up clay and allowing better water and air movement through the soil.
- Mulch provides nutrients to sandy soil and improves its ability to hold water.
- Mulch acts as an insulating layer on top of soil, keeping it cooler in the summer. Roots like that!
- Mulch keeps weeds down, the weeds that do grow are much easier to pull. Gardeners like that!

The High Point Community Builder and Community Relations Manager are hosting a community discussion about the little libraries in High Point today at 5pm. There have been two recent incidents of vandalism that damaged the little libraries. Our goal is to develop community-based solutions to these recent incidents. In the meantime, we encourage everyone in the community to keep an eye out for the little libraries as they are meant to be enjoyed by everyone. "We had our 1st hive inspections of the season today! A couple of you were able to attend, so thank you both Collen and Sherri for coming out today.

The hive inspections went well. All three are queen right. We inspected each to see that the queen was laying new eggs and possibly peak a glimpse at her. Took a look at how their resources were doing, and how the brood over all we’re doing....and of course checking for swarm cells! Nothing major though. It was a sweet and simple check.

So May 26th Field Trip/Garden Party 10am-Noon. Please RSVP.

Great news! Block 32 red oak tree beds would need more arbor chips as the materials were breaking down fast from last year. The OSA maintenance team spent quite a bit of time, energy and arbor chip supplies (over 200 yards) on the beds last July and is paying TREMENDOUS dividends in not even a year.

The soil profile around these trees before the crews efforts was overall anemic and unhealthy with little to no signs of any microbiome.

Now with just some minor hand excavation at different sites around these tree beds, We immediately saw a complete turnaround and incredibly positive change. The mulch has decomposed so well creating a dark, rich organic layer just underneath the top surface and there are earthworms! Where there are worms, there is a healthy, life supporting biome.
