Friday, Sept 16th is PARK(ing) day and I’ll be at 83rd and Greenwood from 7am-6pm with a fun social parklet to hang out at! Come for coffee outside at 7am, stop by during the day, join me for a picnic lunch, or relax with an early happy hour in the street. I’ll have some ground coverings, a table, some chairs, and my giant pile of maps if you want to do some route planning.
The spot will be in the parking zone on the West side of Greenwood Ave N just south of N 83rd. It’s kitty-corner from Coyle’s Bakeshop (yum!) for all your buttery nutritional needs. It should also be shady!
Park(ing) day is a global, public, participatory project launched by Rebar in 2005. It is a day where people across the world temporarily repurpose curbside parking spaces and convert them into parks and social spaces to advocate for safer, greener, and more equitable streets for people. Check out the Seattle PARK(ing) day map for all the other pop-up spaces happening the same day.

Join Sat, August 27 for a ride to help promote Everyday Rides! Meet 10am @ 12th Avenue Square Park in Capitol Hill. Deets and RSVP @ everydayrides.com
From the host: We all love a good social bike scene! But, a good social bike scene depends on a healthy ride calendar. Luckily Seattle has a great platform for hosting and finding bike rides and related events, Everyday Rides (maybe you found this ride here?). This ride is to help spread the word about Everyday Rides so more people can discover, attend, and host rides in the city.
1. Show up @ 12th Avenue Square Park
2. Pick a pre-drawn route through a section of the city, with highlighted bike shops. Or, create your own, alleycat style! Most routes are 15-20 miles, round trip
3. Take the (free!) provided marketing materials (flyers, cards) and equipment (tape dispenser) on your ride. Having some way to carry the materials and equipment on your bike is important
4. Ride the route, handing out the cards to bike shops that would like to display them, and taping up the flyers along popular bike lanes and greenways
5. Return to the start for free celebratory pizza!
Hope to see you there!

There are still some spaces for the mid-summer bike retreat coming up July 29-31!
From the host: We'll be biking a no-drop pace ~25miles from Renton to a TBD location in Wabash - you can view the estimate route from the Everyday Rides page! We'll be sharing meals and peer-led offerings/sessions throughout Saturday. Sign-up for a restful weekend in nature, combined with some community and connection ❤️ We'll be closing sign-ups ~July 20th so we have time to buy enough food for those attending. If you're interested but need more time, reach out to one of your hosts or ! And/or feel free to reach out with any other questions or concerns.

Updates! 😮✨ Streamlined calendar and events, easier editing, and more community groups.
It’s been a long time since I sent out an update due to COVID halting most of the steam we had going early last year, I’m still here and grateful for everyone's support and efforts to make this a valuable place to find local rides and groups in the community.
This round of updates is a big one for simplifying the site and making it more bike specific. Some updates:
* simplified navigation: just one calendar page and one groups page (no more dashboard)
* easier event editing with new fields including time and location notes, easier privacy controls, and metadata about distance, pace, regroups, and more.
* improved event listings that are easier to navigate and with improvements to highlight information about the host of each event
* groups page now includes an index of other cycling groups in the community that you might also want to follow for updates
* new community discourse forum (see link in site header) that I plan to use as a place to send updates and make space for folks to connect if they please.
I’ve had many conversations and have ideas for projects to get going this winter including improvements to sharing photos and doing more to help folks find the rides and groups that are right for them. I'm excited about all the cool things happening in the Seattle bike community!
I hope everyone's staying mostly sane during this difficult time. My mental state has been all over the place, but I have a lot to be grateful with such a wonderful community here in Seattle. I've got a lot of ideas swirling around in my head for events and channels to facilitate connection during this time of stay at home orders.
The first of those is a new Seattle Slack. Join to chat with others and stay tuned for some regular events I'm planning to host in the near future. We can keep connecting digitally even if we can't ride together!

The Everyday Rides Group Ride Guide is now live! This guide is intended to be a helpful tool for hosts looking for guidance on how to plan and lead a successful group ride.
Please check it out linked on the “Add Event” page and in the footer of the site. I’d love to hear your feedback if you think anything is confusing or missing from this guide.
I distilled all of the things I’ve learned from other successful group rides to create this living document on best practices and tips. Hopefully this guide will help ease the efforts of inexperienced ride hosts!

THANK YOU to everyone who came out to the inaugural ride planning meetup last night.
I had tons of fun and I was so incredibly jazzed with the turnout and all the excitement around planning rides for the upcoming year. I hope everyone left with some progress on plans or at least got some new ideas for rides to do. Next time I’m going to have to reserve a bigger venue!
I can’t wait to do this again. I’ll be following up with everyone who made it out and hope that some new connections and rides on will come from it!
