Little Garden Learning

Last week, we proudly made family pages for our class book! The kids loved sharing who lives in their homes and counting family members, siblings, and even pets.

We also spent time learning to recognize different feelings and having important conversations about strategies we can use when big or unexpected emotions come up.

In the garden, we began our final harvests of carrots, blackberries, tomatoes, and potatoes. The kids especially love helping with weeding, watering, and, of course, taste-testing! It’s been such a joy watching them connect with and care for our garden.

What a wonderful start to the school year! The students are settling into our daily routines, and learning how to move and work together as a group. We’ve made some great progress on our Mood Meters, and learning some new songs! It’s been so lovely to watch everyone settle in. What a fantastic start!

Comin’ at you from, Sea Jelly Headquarters🪼! We learned some interesting facts about the animals that are often called jellyfish (pssst, they’re not fish).

Boat’s that Float! Learning about watercraft all week and then getting g a chance to build and test our very own!⛵️

We had a fantastic week taking about animals that live in and use shells as protection! We talked about keeping our beaches & seas clean, and how temperature and chemical changes can affect even the smallest creatures. 🌊🐚

We had so much fun with the legend of Sasquatch this week! This iconic PNW Forest Protector, represents so much of what we love about learning and appreciating the outdoors; We take into consideration the needs of the plants and animals that live in the forest, and walk quietly and respectfully.🫈🌲 And of course you can’t celebrate Sasquatch in Seattle without learning a little bit about our resident muralist Ryan Henry Ward and trying our hand at his whimsical style!

Did you know you could fill a week of summer camp days with slimy-sluggie-snaily facts and fun? 🐌

We spent all week finding out facts and lore about these often misunderstood rodents! Beavers are a keystone species, creating wetlands and habitat for other living creatures! We’re so lucky to have them living in the park, we were able to see their handiwork, and try our hand at dam and lodge building! 🦫 and a special thank you to .obent for helping us sing this week’s theme song!

Who-HOO’s so excited summer camps have begun?! WE ARE!!!Owls were the subject this week! We had so much fun building nests, learning what evidence to look for in the forest, what they eat, their lifecycle and of course fun games, songs and art projects! Who-HOO 🦉
