One year ago, my friend and Bar Manager Sander Raav took over the reins in the former The Tin Table space, and made it his own: Art Table.

Many things changed, but what stayed the same is his love of the people who he works with and those who frequent his bar and restaurant.

The birth of The Tin Table was a bittersweet thing. It came about in 2008 when the building was sold to new owners, every arts organization and office vacated the building due to tripling rents. Only Century Ballroom remained.

We always had a small cafe, (“small” is an understatement!) with amazing chefs and food coming out of that tiny kitchen. Growing into The Tin Table happened because I wanted people to experience the food if they weren’t coming to dance; and the only way to do that, was create a restaurant entity separate from Century Ballroom…The Tin Table.

It went through changes and fights about skinny or thicker frites, (I’m on Team Skinny). The Fl**zy Burger stayed throughout all the changes, including its name. Chimay became my favorite beer; and my love of bubbly still remains (as does the Champagne Wall at Art Table).

Up until the last year, I had never had to wait on a table. Oddly I enjoyed doing it, because I got to talk to people. But that was not a job I was good at; so if you had me as a wait person, thanks for your patience and understanding.

The Tin Table’s last day of service was 5/31/25. A year later, I still get to hang out at Art Table, seeing dancers and staff, which is what I hoped for when we closed Century.
If you haven’t been back, go say “Hi", try some Jamaican Food, and see the rotating art shows. (And if you’re a dancer, go dance!). I’ll see you there.
