🖼️ About the Piece
From the Horizon series, Abacot has a rich metallic bronze upper area with the lower third of the horizon relying on the patina the bronze paint creates as it flows downward on the lighter painted canvas.

🧑‍🎨 About the Artist
Juan Alonso-RodrĂ­guez is a Cuban-born, self-taught artist with a career spanning over three decades in the Pacific Northwest. His work has been exhibited throughout the US and is included in the permanent collections of the Tacoma Art Museum,
Portland Art Museum, Henry Art Gallery, Microsoft, Vulcan, Swedish & Harborview Hospitals and General Mills, among others. He has created public works for Lumen Link Field, Sea/Tac Airport, King County Housing Authority, Epiphany School, Sound Transit, Chief Sealth High School, and Renton Technical College. Besides a 2019 Artist Trust Fellowship, his awards include two GAP’s, the 1997 Neddy Fellowship, a 2010 Seattle Mayor’s Arts Award, the 2016 DeJunius Hughes Award for Activism, the 2017 Conductive Garboil Grant, the 2019 Governor’s Arts Award for an Individual Artist, and was selected as the 2021 Lecturer for the UW Libraries Artist Images.

“Verse” is another title I’ve given to my various explorations of stages of processing work toward “Topophilia.”

👩‍🎨 About the Artist
Keiko Hara moved to the USA from Japan to pursue her career as an artist and earned an MFA at Cranbook Academy of Art in 1976. In 1983 she was granted United States permanent resident status as an artist. Hara lives and works in Walla Walla, Washington, where she is Professor of Art Emeritus at Whitman College. With over fifty solo exhibitions nation-wide since 1976, Hara has also been included in numerous invitational group exhibitions throughout the United States, Europe and Japan. Among museums that include Hara’s work in their permanent collections are the National Gallery of Art, Art Institute of Chicago, Detroit Institute of Arts, Portland Art Museum, Library of Congress, Jundt Art Museum, and many others. Hara has been awarded grants from The Po***ck Krasner Foundation and Artist Trust of Washington State. She won the Philadelphia Print Award and first prize in the Michigan Print & Drawing Exhibition.
