What is aphasia? Some of our clients at Atlas share their stories to help spread ! 🧠

Key takeaways:
- Aphasia is due to damage in the brain
- It can happen at any age
- Aphasia impacts language (not intelligence!)
- It can affect everyone differently
- Not being able to communicate is often frustrating, isolating, difficult, and exhausting

There are SO MANY people living with aphasia, and most people have never heard of it! Help us spread the word πŸ—£

Kristi was our very first graduate student intern! We’ve loved having her, and she’ll be here one more week.

Kristi has been working with our clients on goals like: ordering food at a restaurant, reading text messages, talking about TV shows & movies, social phrases, and matching sounds to letters for improved spelling.

We love having students! It’s a great way for them to get hands-on training and education about aphasia. Plus, our clients get the opportunity to practice communicating with a new conversation partner. Win-win! πŸ’™

One of our clients got a new puppy!! We’re claiming Rocky as Atlas Aphasia Center’s unofficial mascot 🐾

We love using pets for speech therapy. There are so many language-related goals you can work on.

Naming objects: leash, collar, dog food, treat, toy, paws, ears, tail
Saying commands: sit, stay, down, fetch, heel
Making sentences: β€œI will take Rocky to the dog park”
