Let There Be Light acknowledges our bodies and behaviors in exaggerated ways that make them beautiful for the same reasons they might otherwise be deemed revolting. Within the show, alternative binaries emerge; ones that have the power to unsettle narrow ways of seeing. And by severing the tension that exists between celebration and censorship, the exhibition positions light and dark not as opposites, but rather as partners in dance; intertwined, in tension, and always in motion.

‘Street Flower’ by

‘A few weeks prior to painting this mural I spent time practicing Plein Air painting similar flowers, so I thought it would be cool to replicate that, but more blown out and blurry, keeping a simple and bold form with spray paint, adding a softer touch to pioneer square.’

makes its First Thursday Art Walk debut on June 5 in with a multi-venue celebration of art, food, performance, and the creative community that inspired it.

At the center is Populus: Origins—an exhibition at featuring early works by over 30 artists, architects, designers, photographers, and curators. Developed over a decade, the show offers an intimate look into the creative foundation of Seattle’s newest cultural landmark. Through original studies, sketches, and place-based responses, the exhibition reveals how Populus Seattle took shape—rooted in the textures, histories, and ecology of the Pacific Northwest.

From 7:30–9PM, performs live at Europa. Their luminous harmonies and cinematic sound create a resonant atmosphere that echoes the themes of the exhibition.

Guests are invited to explore both venues—Europa Gallery (401 2nd Ave S) and Populus Seattle (100 S King St)—to experience the full arc of the project.

Inside Populus, original artworks are woven throughout every level of the hotel, transforming a reimagined 1907 warehouse into a living gallery—where design, art, and nature are seamlessly connected.

At , the story continues through fire, smoke, and season. Open-hearth cooking, local ingredients, and grounded technique turn each dish into an expression of place—extending the narrative of the exhibition through flavor and hospitality.

The evening culminates from 9–11PM at , Pioneer Square’s first rooftop bar. Reserved for hotel guests and ticket holders, the afterparty features preservation-inspired cocktails, sweeping skyline views, and a final gathering of the artists, collaborators, and community that shaped the night.

To mark the occasion, a special overnight package is available for June 5. It includes exclusive access to the rooftop afterparty, priority reservations and invites First Thursday attendees to extend the experience—staying the night at Populus and becoming part of this shared moment in art, community, and place.

‘No Rain, No Flowers’ by

‘No Rain, No Flowers’ tells the story of growth and resilience in the face of adversity. This piece reflects the quiet hope that lies within the toughest of times. It is a reminder to all, that on the other side of hardship is transformation, strength, and a more resilient version of you.
