Before and After Cows
While out moving our cows last evening lariat find an inch worn covered with ragweed seeds. We are moving the cows twice a day right now trying to kill out a patch of ragweed where the last farmer fed his cows in one spot so it killed out most of the grass. So we are giving the cows a small area twice a day to trample the ragweed down and give the ground some sunshine so hopefully with time grass will be growing again. ( interesting fact, weeds canāt stand heavy cattle grazing pressure but grass loves being grazed heavily once then we move the cattle on n donāt come back for three to four weeks which gives the grass time to recover from sunlight. Did you know grass is like 90% sunlight n air? ) every bite the cow takes it leaves Slava behind on the grass that is a energy booster. Also, when the cow takes a bite and pulls on the grass to chew it off, itās stimulates the root system and tells the grass to grow faster if that cow comes back and grazes too soon again it wears the grass out to where it doesnāt grow as fast thatās why we give our cows small sections and then move them on for several weeks before coming back and grazing the same area again. We call that never giving the cattle a chance to take the third bite. Grass will grow back two to three times faster if the cattle take one bite and move on. Itās called mob grazing like the Native American buffalo. They ran in huge herd that knocked down everything in their way but then they moved on and the grass grew back.
