Today we were able to help this little cutie named Forehead get the exam and echocardiogram he needed. Forehead means the world to his dad, and when he had a persistent cough, the vet said there was something wrong with his heart and he needed to see the cardiologist for further diagnostics. His dad, who is disabled and on a fixed income, was desperate to get Forehead the care he needed. A friend of AARF who knows the owner reached out to us to see if we could help and we did.

We will stay in touch with Forehead and his dad to see if we can be of further assistance to make sure they will have many more years together 🤞

This is Mindy with her dad Edward who loves her dearly. We first met outside our local Mud Bay store, took a while to gain Edwards trust that we wanted to help Mindy. Unfortunately after seeing our vet, it was determined that the tumor on her leg is too large to be removed and she is not a candidate for amputation. We will continue to make sure Mindy has antibiotics, pain meds and clean dressing for her wound and that she has healthy food, coats, and supplements for as long as she needs them ❤️

The shelters are overflowing in rural Louisiana. One that we work with took in 30 dogs from a hoarding situation and was in Mayday status/needing to euthinize for space. These two girls had been in the shelter for a while and were at risk, they are heartworm positive which is expensive to treat. AARF sponsored their treatment so that they are now out of the shelter and getting the medical care they need. Coco and Greta now have a second chance for a wonderful life ❤️

** warning graphic photo **

This senior wandered up to someone's house a few days ago and was brought to a rural shelter. She was in need of medical attention as she has open sores and what looks like Mammary tumors

The shelter has no funding, and if no one stepped up for her she would have been euthanized.

AARF pledged to help with her medical expenses and thankfully another rescue pulled her - yesterday she had rads and bloodwork done, some of the findings were of concern but as of now she is settling into her foster home ❤️

We have been helping Sweet Lola for several years now with her medical care and food. Received an urgent call from her mom last night saying Lola was very sick and the vet suspected pyometra, she needed surgery asap. She didn’t have the funds and needed our help and we said yes.

Her surgery was this morning, we were very worried about her as her bloodwork was concerning, she was almost septic.

Thankfully, we just got this message from her owner :

Dr kraabel just called. She's is out of surgery and doing well! He said she remained stable throughout, they didn't need to do anything extra because her blood pressure remained stable, and he said it was definitely her uterus (big and yucky). They're going to keep her on iv fluids for now and I can pick her up around 4. He said she'll be sent home with a couple antibiotics and she'll need to do some follow up lab test in about a week. I am beyond grateful for you to have been brought into our lives. You are one of earths angels. Lola is one tough girl, shes endured so much in her life. She's my best friend and has the most beautiful soul. She has been with me during some very very hard times, and vice versa! I am so thankful to be given more time to share with her.

We are grateful that AARF was in the position to help Lola and her mom so that they will have many more years together❤️

Here are a few of the cuties that we continue to support with healthy food, supplies and medical expenses.

Lola is a much loved senior pittie we have supported for several years. She has chronic allergies, ear infections and UTI’s. AARF covered all her testing and will continue to pay for her medical costs and healthy food.

Lucky lives unhoused with her dad. Another dog we have commited to support long term with healthy food and supplies - winter coats and safety harnesses.

Franklin is in foster with our sister rescue in Louisiana - we committed to pay his medical expense and provide healthy food. he is an older guy with heartworm, so it will be a while before he is healthy enough to find his own home, but until then we will make sure his needs are covered.
