If you are planning to visit Steamtown during the Big Boy Reunion, here is the schedule:
June 13 – Steamtown NHS open, Big Boy not yet on site.
June 14 – Site closed for preparations
June 15 & 16 – PUBLIC DISPLAY DAYS
June 17 through 30 - Operations return largely to normal, with on-site parking available, limited short train ride experiences, and both Big Boy locomotives on display.
The Union Pacific "Big Boy" No. 4014, will be on display at Steamtown National Historic Site beginning June 15 through June 30.
Timed entry reservations are required for all visits from June 15 through June 30 and are available on https://www.recreation.gov/ticket/facility/10088803

Parking and Access:
Coming to the Big Boy Reunion event at Steamtown National Historic Site? Already have your tickets from recreation.gov? Plan like a ranger with these parking and transportation tips!
♿There will be no general parking on site during this event. Limited handicap parking will be available, however, on a first come first serve basis. Please make sure to have official hangtags or license plates and plan ahead for if parking is full.
🅿️Parking is available in downtown Scranton, including street parking or any of 9 paid parking garages and lots located within the city. For more information on paid parking, visit scrantonpaparking.com.
🚗Visitors planning to use rideshare options or taxi services should request to be dropped off at the Lackawanna Transit Center on Lackawanna Avenue or in front of the Marketplace at Steamtown.
🚌Public transportation is available on regularly scheduled buses from COLTS and Luzerne County Transit Authority. Free parking and shuttle service will be available from Scranton High School, West Scranton High, and PNC Field. Shuttle service is planned from 8 am to 6 pm. *Please note that riders using bus services not a part of the shuttle loops must pay standard fares - cash only.
Please make sure to plan ahead and extra time for travel. Traffic delays are expected due to a high volume of visitors and road construction both within the city and on I-81 North and South.

Big Boy Reunion at Steamtown: Top Things to Know Before You Go
1.Plan Ahead and Know the Schedule
Steamtown National Historic Site will close this Sunday, June 14 for event preparations. June 15-16 are "Public Display Days", offering you the closest public viewing opportunities but also attracting the largest crowds. June 17-30 are "Viewing Days," when visitors can see both Big Boy locomotives while many park operations return to normal.
Before traveling, check nps.gov/steamtown and up.com/steamschedule for the latest official event information.
2. Timed Entry Reservations Are Required
Due to the anticipated level of interest and for the safety and security of visitors, volunteers and staff, timed entry reservations are required for all visits between June 15 - 30, regardless of which day you plan to attend. Get your tickets on our Big Boy Reunion page or at recreation.gov.
3. Expect Traffic, Parking and Entrance Changes
Expect large crowds. Visitors should allow extra travel time, review parking options before arriving and follow posted event signage and staff directions.
To assist with crowd management, the Marketplace at Steamtown pedestrian bridge will operate as EXIT ONLY on June 15-16 and weekends throughout the event period.
Paid parking is available throughout downtown Scranton. Complimentary shuttle service from designated satellite parking locations will be available during the Public Display Days. Visitors should review parking and shuttle information in advance and should expect traffic delays.
4. Come Prepared for a Busy Day
Expect lines, crowds, walking and outdoor conditions. Wear comfortable footwear, dress appropriately for the weather, stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and plan accordingly.
5. Make the Most of a Once-in-a-Lifetime Experience
This may be your only opportunity to see Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014 alongside Steamtown's Big Boy No. 4012. Take time to enjoy the experience, explore the site and appreciate this unique moment in railroad history. 6. Are drones permitted at the Big Boy Reunion?
No drones may be launched, landed or operated from Steamtown National Historic Site. Also, Union Pacific does not permit drones during Display Days and requires drones to remain at least 25 feet laterally from the tracks when Big Boy is in motion. All drone operations must comply with applicable FAA, state and local requirements.
