Tara Kitchen
Visit our award winning Schenectady restaurant to get a taste of Morocco! The story of Tara Kitchen begins…with a love story.
Owners Aneesa Waheed and Muntasim Shoaib met in Marrakech, Morocco and after a whirlwind romance, married under starry cobalt skies on a balmy North African night, in the shadow of the Atlas mountains. They left their desert paradise for Aneesa’s hometown of Schenectady—and brought with them their love of Morocco’s rich cuisine and culture. In Tara Kitchen, the only Moroccan restaurant in the capi

Productive day at the Expo in downtown Manhattan. Grateful for the conversations with Deputy Mayor for Economic Justice Julie Su, SBS Commissioner Kenny Minaya and Haris Khan.
As a restaurant owner and longtime entrepreneur in NYC, I spend a lot of time talking about what small businesses actually need to survive and grow in this city — access, opportunity, modernization, and systems that work for the people building communities block by block.
The conversations happening around MWBE growth, economic justice, and the future of small business in New York are important… but turning those conversations into real change is the work.

One-Night-Only Brazil x Morocco Dinner
Dear Friends,
I’m so excited (and honestly still pinching myself a little) to share that on June 9th I’ll be cooking at the James Beard Foundation’s Platform at Pier 57 in NYC for a very special collaborative dinner celebrating the flavors of Brazil and Morocco.
This dinner was inspired in part by the upcoming international soccer match between Morocco and Brazil on June 13th — two passionate cultures coming together through energy, pride, music, movement, and of course FOOD. ⚽🇲🇦🇧🇷
For me personally, this feels like such a huge moment. As someone who has spent years telling stories through Moroccan food and trying to build bridges between cultures through the table, being invited to cook at the James Beard Foundation is deeply meaningful.
The format of the evening is really special — we’ll each be presenting 4 courses, with every course featuring a dish from Morocco and a dish from Brazil side by side. It’s a true dialogue on the plate, course by course.
✨ A truly joyful evening celebrating culture and connection✨
I would absolutely LOVE to have familiar faces in the room
supporting this special night.

Thank you always for supporting my journey, my food, and my crazy ideas.
It means more than you know.
With love,
Aneesa

Spent the day at NYC City Hall meeting with City Council members, participating in hearings and advocating for better access and opportunities for MWBE businesses across NYC.
As a small business owner, this work feels deeply personal. For a city that’s on the cutting edge of practically everything, some of these systems still feel like they run on dial-up and fax machines 😂 Furthermore According to the New York City Comptroller’s office, Minority and Women-owned Business Enterprises (M/WBEs) secured just 5% of the total citywide procurement value in Fiscal Year 2025, accounting for $2.4 billion out of $46 billion in total registered contracts and purchase. Which is exactly why these conversations matter so much.
I also loved learning more about the history and architecture of City Hall itself. Walking through such a historic building while discussing the future of NYC business felt pretty special. Grateful to be part of the conversation and hopeful for meaningful change.
and baby sister raeesa you can’t just walk in and ask to@see the mayor the last picture is me trying 😂😂😂

Team building at Tara Kitchen Troy today 👩🏻🍳🔥
This group was a newly formed team working together on a big project, and honestly this was such a fun way for them to connect outside of the office. A lot of laughter, teamwork, and good food.
If your team is tired of the same old happy hour… come cook with us. We’ll feed you well and these classes are such a great way to bring people together.
