Just LOOK-BACK at it! 08/12/2023

Just LOOK-BACK at it! 💚 Luis Severino has pitched a no hitter, made two All-Star teams, placed twice on the Cy-Young ballot, struck out 28% of opposing batters from 2017-2022 and had a 3.10ERA in 89 games (85 starts) fr…

I saw Tim McCarver recently on a tv broadcast and thought "maybe this is it"....then sure enough he passed away soon after. McCarver was a GREAT color commentator, my god was he good. He called GREAT play-off games, had a GREAT feel for the game and ALWAYS knew what was going on. Those are just some of the reasons he called more World Series games than any one else.
A former catcher, McCarver could see potential pivotal pitches from a mile away .LIKE NO ONE EVER HAS, or will. Just watch the link below, it's the stuff of legend.

https://youtu.be/UQU6YgQDBUs

He also told us:

"When a catcher has to use his thumb to give signs, that means the pitcher has more than four pitches."

"It's much easier to work a good hitter than a poor hitter. Poor hitters have no idea what you're going to throw to begin with, so why try to outthink them? You go after them with stuff, rather than with pitch selection. But there's beauty in working a good hitter."

McCarver also won two World Series titles and was a two time All-Star.

Just got a new follower yesterday...Wayne Gilbert is a pastor/friend of mine from my Brooklyn Days. Your a Mets fan...I think 🤔 which isn't so bad these days even with potential pitching injuries they can still do what they did last year. Thank you for following "Look-Back" stats where I can tell you a couple of stats right off the "bat".

📝 Since 1962 the Mets have won 100 or more games just four times.

🤔 Guess who the all time leader in runs scored is..............,.............................................David Wright with 949.

🤔 How about hits.................................David Wright with 1,777.

🤔 What about RBI.................................David Wright with 970.

🏆 Best Pitching Career: Tom Seaver
🏆 Best Pitcher: Jacob Degrom
🏆 Most Saves: John Franco (276)
🏆 Best Closer: Billy Wagner

🏆 Alex Rodriguez was born in New York and leads all hitters born in the state with 696 career home runs. That's 203 more round trippers than Lou Gehrig (493).
🔥 Eddie Collins leads all Ny born players with 741 bases over a twenty five year career from 1906 to 1930. He had at least 30 steals twelve times and finished in the top ten 17 times.
⚾ Warren Spahn (1942-1965) is the best New York born pitcher in Major League history and it's not even close. He has 363 career wins, went to 17 All-Star games, threw 63 shut-outs, pitched over 5,000 innings and finished with 92.48bWAR. He won at least twenty games in a season 13 times, led the league in wins eight different seasons and finished top ten in FIP (fielding independent earned run average) eleven times.

I remember my first MLB game was the Redsox and Orioles in the mid to late 90's at Fenway park. It was so hot I remember thinking how uncomfortable and Mo Vaughn must have been and how big he really was.... You remember Mo, he was 6'1, 225LB, hit 328 career home runs from 1991 to 2003 and was AL MVP in 1995. In eight years with Boston Vaughn hit .304/.394/.542 for a .936OPS...which was 40% better than the league average hitter from 1991 to 1998.
As I grew older I witnessed my dad watching Yankee games on our living room TV in Manchester Vermont. I tried playing baseball too, but was afraid of getting hit by the ball on a pop up or getting nailed by a pitcher who threw underhand. This is when the Yankees were winning a lot of Championships. From 1996 through 2002 New York pitched in 89 post season games winning 59 of them with a 3.62ERA and four World Series victories.
⚾ The Arizona Diamondbacks were an expansion team drafted in 1998 who made it to the world series in 2001 because Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling went a combined 43-12 while the 3-6 starters won a total of 25 games. Arizona of course scored 37 runs in the series while holding the Yankees to just a two runs per game average over seven games.
😎 The Yankees had a cool offense in 2001 with 203 home runs and 161 steals. They had five players with 20+ home runs and four with 20+ steals....The D-Backs actually hit five more home runs than New York during the season but instead of five different players hitting 20+ home runs they had two players hit over thirty a piece. While the didn't swipe one hundred bags either, they had 71 sacrifice bunts to New Yorks thirty.

My last baseball game was Spring Training in Tampa a few years ago to watch the Yankees.....

🙋‍♂️ Hey everyone, the Baseball sites I use for information are....

1. www.baseballreference.com
👍 Baseball reference is my favorite MLB stat spot. It's the easiest to navigate, loads fast and makes it easier to compare or contrast players.

2. www.fangraphs.com
🆗 Fangraphs is a site I use for roster info, depth charts and other forms of roster analysis. The stats are there, but you really need a computer and the stat glossary for new users is a separate page. With baseball reference you can read the stat and it's purpose at the same time.

MLB Stats, Scores, History, & Records | Baseball-Reference.com Complete source for baseball history including complete major league player, team, and league stats, awards, records, leaders, rookies and scores.

"Look-Back" stats is up, until spring training starts I'm simply just going to be creating random and entertaining posts for you to read.
