Schenectady Restoration Project
We’ve purchased a new home in Schenectady’s Stockade — one that dates back to at least the middle of the 1700s. Follow our progress!
It has a ton of character and needs a lot of love.

Putting a primer coat of linseed oil on our front window moldings. We had these matched to the originally 1700s moldings, only one section of which remains on a back window. This is a great use of random paint samples that otherwise would go to waste.

We also installed metal edging on the patio, which really helps clean it up and give us space for landscaping soon, too. Thanks to Barrett🐾 and Zoey🐾 who helped.
The doorway is back open!

Okay… MAJOR news… the subfloor in the kitchen is COMPLETE! After leveling beams, adding 2x6 crossbracing, shaving beams to make the room plausibly level (😏), the subfloor is down and attached!

Making progress (yay) on the kitchen subfloor this weekend. It’s actually attached and it’s actually flat! 🤯 (now getting it have a place to lay flat.. that’s where all the effort is)…

Organizing and trimming damaged sections of our wide plank 1700s floorboards. These will be cleaned and (fingers crossed soon) be installed in the kitchen!

Shh 🤫 don’t tell the other Chris… he is out of town and I wasn’t supposed to put the flags back up (we removed them when we put the gas lamps in) until we restored around the oriel window. 🤓
The flag on the right is the British Red Ensign flag, which would have flown over the colonies pre-Revolution when our house was built.
