Open days are converting fewer students.

Not because the campus isn't impressive. Because fewer students are arriving undecided.

Here's what's changed:
By the time a prospective student attends an open day in 2026, they've already done 6–8 hours of online research. They've shortlisted. They've compared. Many have already formed a preference.

The open day confirms a decision. It rarely makes one.

Which means the real conversion moment; the one that determines whether a student adds you to their shortlist at all; happens weeks earlier.

Online. Alone. At home.

Most enrollment teams are optimising for the visit.

The ones with the highest yield rates are optimising for what happens before it.

The question isn't how to run a better open day.

It's how to make a prospective student feel enough, online, that they want to attend one.

How are you converting prospective students who never reach the open day stage?

Your enrollment page isn't converting.

Not because your programmes aren't strong. Because it reads like a brochure.

Prospective students are making shortlist decisions in under 2 minutes online.

Here's what actually moves them:

Lead with feeling, not facts Rankings and outcomes matter. But they don't create buy-in. Show what it feels like to be a student there β€” before listing what they'll study.
Remove the visit dependency If your conversion path requires a campus visit to feel real, you've already lost every remote prospect who won't travel without a reason.
Put the tour front and center An interactive campus walkthrough shouldn't be buried in a "Prospective Students" dropdown. It should be the first thing someone encounters.
Follow up with the experience, not the brochure When an inquiry comes in, the first email should invite them to explore, not attach a PDF.

Enrollment pages that convert don't inform students. They make students feel like they already belong.

What's the first thing a prospective student sees when they land on your admissions page?

Better photography won't fill your rooms.

I know that's not what the brief says.

But I've watched enough hotels invest in another photography shoot, better lighting, better angles, better staging, and see the same conversion numbers on the other side.

Because the problem was never the photos.

Photos show a room. They don't make someone feel a stay.

The guest deciding between your property and two competitors isn't struggling to see your rooms clearly.

They're struggling to feel the difference.

Better photos solve a visibility problem.

Most premium hotels don't have a visibility problem. They have an imagination problem.

The properties converting at the highest rate right now are giving prospective guests something to step into, not just look at.

More budget on photography won't close that gap.

A fundamentally different kind of digital experience will.

What's the one thing about your property that no photo has ever communicated properly?

Free trials don't build gym memberships.

The gym industry has been hooked on the free trial for years.

Come in. Try the equipment. Meet a trainer.

And it works, for the people who were already going to join.

What it doesn't fix is the far larger group who never walk in to start the trial.

Because the real barrier isn't the price. It isn't the equipment.

It's the walk through the door for the first time, not knowing what to expect.

People don't avoid gyms because they're expensive. They avoid them because they're intimidating, until they're not.

The facilities growing membership without relying on free trials are removing that barrier digitally.

Give someone the ability to explore your facility before they arrive. The layout. The changing rooms.

The training floor. The atmosphere.

By the time they walk in for the first time, it already feels familiar.

The trial becomes easy when the decision is already made.

What's currently making the first visit easier for someone who's never been to your gym?

Boarding applications are shifting fast.

Families in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and West Africa are not making school decisions the way they did five years ago.

The transatlantic visit to shortlisted schools used to be the starting point.
Now it's the last step.

Families build their shortlist entirely online.

And the schools that make it onto that shortlist are the ones letting remote families feel the school ; not just read about it.

58% of students factor virtual tours into their application decisions.

For a family weighing a $60,000-a-year commitment from 5,000 miles away, that figure is almost certainly higher.

The schools dominating international boarding applications aren't the ones with the largest marketing budgets.

They're the ones that removed the imagination barrier first.

What does your school's digital presence offer a family who will never visit before they apply?

The online-to-offline gap is costing you.

Every day, prospective guests, students, members, and buyers encounter your space online.

And what they find doesn't match what they'd experience in person.

That gap is where decisions are lost.

Hotels, universities, private clubs, and luxury real estate developments with extraordinary physical spaces are losing inquiries, applications, and bookings to competitors who do a better job of translating their space digitally.

It's not a product problem.

It's a translation problem.

The Online-to-Offline Gap Report 2026 breaks down exactly how this plays out across industries , with benchmarks, real data, and the specific strategies that are closing that gap right now.

It's the clearest picture I've seen of what premium physical spaces are losing, and the most direct path to starting to fix it.

DM me the word SPACE and I'll send it over. No strings. No pitch. Just the data.

50% visit within a day of searching.

That stat changed how I think about Google presence.

50% of people who view a business listing on mobile take a physical action ,
a call, a visit, or a booking , within 24 hours. (Google Consumer Insights)

For luxury hotels, that reframes everything.

Your Google presence isn't a secondary marketing channel.

It's where the most time-sensitive, highest-intent guests are making real-time decisions. And most hotel Google Business listings are static. A name. A phone number.

A handful of photos auto-pulled from wherever Google could find them.

Here's what the best-performing hotel listings look like right now:
A Google-integrated virtual tour embedded directly in the Maps listing.
When a prospective guest searches your hotel, they can step inside ; lobby, rooms, pool, restaurant ,before they book.

That's not a feature for early tech adopters.

That's a conversion tool for the highest-intent moment in the entire booking journey.

Properties with Google-integrated virtual tours see higher click-through rates, longer engagement, and measurably lower drop-off between discovery and booking.

The guest who walks your lobby on Google Maps is already halfway through their booking decision before they've opened your website.

How does your hotel currently appear on Google Maps to someone searching in your market right now?
