In a candlelit room beneath an antique shop in Prague, a man unlocks a velvet-lined case. Inside rests a cracked porcelain mask, its surface stained with age—and something darker. The seller whispers of a spirit bound within, trapped during a funeral rite abandoned centuries ago. The buyer doesn't flinch. He’s one of them—a Shadow Collector. Part curator, part custodian, part sinner. Across the globe, these secretive figures deal not in gold or gemstones, but in haunted relics, cursed heirlooms, and bottled ghosts. Some say they protect the world. Others believe they’re only feeding the darkness. Whatever the truth, one thing is certain: not every collector's prize stays silent forever.

Perception Bias and Its Influence on Paranormal Claims
The allure of the unknown has always captivated human curiosity. Paranormal phenomena, from ghostly apparitions to unidentified flying objects, pique our interest and challenge our understanding of the world. However, when investigating such claims, it's essential to consider the role of perception bias. Perception biases can significantly influence the interpretation of events and experiences, often leading to misjudgments or erroneous conclusions.
What is Perception Bias?
Perception bias, in the context of paranormal investigations, refers to the predisposition to interpret events based on one's beliefs, experiences, and expectations rather than objective evidence. Such biases can skew our interpretation of sensory information, leading to flawed conclusions about the nature of an observed phenomenon.
Common Forms of Perception Bias in Paranormal Investigations
Confirmation Bias:
The tendency to search for, interpret, and remember information in a way that confirms one's preconceptions. For instance, an individual who firmly believes in ghosts might interpret ambiguous sounds in a supposedly haunted house as proof of a supernatural presence.
Expectation Bias:
When one's expectations influence the perception of an event. If someone expects a location to be haunted, they might be more inclined to perceive ordinary events, such as a draft or a creaky floorboard, as paranormal.
Pareidolia:
The tendency to perceive patterns, like faces or voices, in random stimuli. This can lead individuals to believe they've captured an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon) or seen a ghostly figure when the stimuli are non-anomalous.
Memory Bias:
Our memories aren't flawless recordings of events. Over time, details can become distorted, and our recollections can be influenced by suggestions or subsequent experiences.
Implications for Paranormal Claims
When perception biases are not acknowledged and controlled for, they can:
Mislead Investigations:
Investigators might give undue importance to certain pieces of "evidence" based on their biases, overlooking natural explanations.
Promote False Narratives:
Stories and accounts influenced by bias can spread, creating myths and legends based on flawed observations or interpretations.
Stifle Genuine Inquiry:
An uncritical acceptance of every claim can diminish the credibility of genuine unexplained phenomena and discourage rigorous scientific investigation.
Overcoming Perception Bias
Awareness:
Recognizing and accepting that biases exist is the first step. Investigators must introspect and understand their own predispositions.
Collaboration:
Working in diverse teams can help counter individual biases. Team members can challenge each other's assumptions and interpretations.
Documentation:
Using recording devices and journals ensures that initial observations are preserved, reducing reliance on memory.
Seeking Natural Explanations:
Before jumping to paranormal conclusions, investigators should exhaust all plausible natural explanations.
Continuous Learning:
Staying updated with scientific advancements and methodologies can provide investigators with new tools and perspectives, reducing the impact of biases.
Conclusion
While the unknown intrigues and beckons, the journey to understanding it must be paved with critical thinking and objectivity. Perception biases, if unchecked, can lead astray even the most earnest seeker of truth. By being aware of these biases and adopting strategies to counteract them, paranormal investigators can approach claims with a balanced, open-minded skepticism that lends credibility to their endeavors.
The media's portrayal of paranormal investigation often stirs mixed feelings among researchers in this field.
On the one hand, popular culture showcases that can engender curiosity and invite open dialogue around paranormal phenomena. It helps in demystifying the subject, making it more approachable to a wider audience. Some television shows and films even manage to offer accurate glimpses into our investigative methods and equipment, which can spark interest in scientific inquiry.
However, this spotlight also brings with it some challenges. Sensationalism tends to take precedence over factual reporting in the interest of ratings, which can cloud genuine research. The portrayal of paranormal investigation as a thrill-seeking adventure or a stage for theatrics can dilute the serious scientific efforts many investigators put forth in understanding these phenomena.
Let's not forget that true paranormal investigation involves rigorous methodologies, with an emphasis on objectivity and critical thinking. It's not just about ghost stories and bumps in the night; it's a quest for understanding the nature of reality itself.
While media portrayal certainly brings visibility and public interest to paranormal investigation, it also emphasizes the need for maintaining a keen focus on authentic research and upholding scientific standards.

Navigating Grief: The Dangers of Turning to the Paranormal and A Guide for Professionals Helping the Grieving
The loss of a loved one is an extraordinarily painful event, often leading individuals down a path of intense grief and sorrow. In their search for comfort and understanding, some people may feel compelled to turn to the paranormal in hopes of establishing a connection with their deceased loved ones. However, such a route has the potential to exacerbate the grieving process, leading to further distress and potential exploitation. This article explores the reasons why it's not advisable to seek grief relief through paranormal means and provides a guide for investigators and other professionals who may encounter grieving individuals seeking such unconventional support.
Why Turning to the Paranormal Isn't Beneficial for Grieving
Exploitation Risk:
Some individuals may prey on the vulnerability of those who are grieving, offering fraudulent paranormal services at a high cost. These services can range from psychic readings to séances, all promising contact with the departed. Not only is there a financial risk involved, but there's also emotional risk as false messages can create a distorted perception of the loved one or the afterlife.
Delayed Healing:
When individuals focus on trying to communicate with their deceased loved ones, they may not be fully processing their grief. This can prolong the grieving process and potentially lead to complicated grief or other mental health issues, such as depression or anxiety.
False Hope and Dependence:
Relying on paranormal experiences can instill a sense of false hope, creating an unrealistic expectation of ongoing contact with the departed. This can lead to a dependence on these experiences, preventing the individual from finding closure and moving forward.
A Guide for Professionals Helping Those Grieving
Establish Empathy and Understanding:
Building a strong empathetic relationship is the cornerstone of any therapeutic alliance. Be understanding and patient with individuals who express an interest in the paranormal, even if you don't share their beliefs. Many people who have lost loved ones grapple with questions about the afterlife, and it's essential to provide a safe space for these discussions.
Provide Information on Healthy Grieving Processes:
Educate individuals about the stages of grief and healthy ways of coping. Encourage them to express their feelings, remember their loved ones, and find comfort in support groups, counseling, and positive personal routines.
Promote Critical Thinking:
While respecting their beliefs, gently encourage individuals to critically evaluate the sources of their information about the paranormal. Highlight the importance of not making significant decisions based on unverified or potentially fraudulent information.
Recommend Professional Help:
Encourage the bereaved to seek help from licensed mental health professionals, like psychologists, psychiatrists, or grief counselors. These professionals have the training to provide evidence-based interventions that can assist with the grieving process.
Follow Up and Support:
Regularly check in with those you're helping to see how they're progressing. Show interest in their wellbeing, provide reassurances, and reaffirm that it's normal and okay to grieve.
Conclusion
Grief is a complex and deeply personal experience, and there's no "right" way to grieve. However, seeking solace in the paranormal can lead to potential pitfalls and exploit vulnerabilities. Professionals who encounter individuals contemplating this path should provide empathetic support, educate about healthy grieving processes, and guide them toward effective, evidence-based help. By doing so, they can help individuals navigate their grief and move toward healing in a healthy and constructive manner.

Breath Artifacts in Paranormal Photography
When it comes to paranormal photography, breath artifacts are a common, yet often misunderstood, phenomenon. These unintentional byproducts of natural processes can lead to intriguingly eerie images that seem to hint at the supernatural, but they are actually quite explicable.
The Science of Breath Artifacts
Breath artifacts, also known as breath orbs or mist, are actually minute particles of moisture exhaled from our lungs that get illuminated by the camera flash, especially in cold conditions. Our breath is composed of warm, humid air. When we exhale into cooler surrounding air, this breath condenses into tiny droplets of water v***r. If these droplets are in the camera's field of view when a picture is taken, they can scatter the light from the camera's flash and appear as unexplained mists, streaks, or orbs in the resulting image.
Breath Artifacts vs Paranormal Orbs
It's crucial to differentiate between breath artifacts and the orbs often associated with paranormal activity. Breath orbs are typically larger, less defined, and more cloud-like compared to purported paranormal orbs, which are often depicted as small, bright, and circular spots of light.
Breath artifacts will also usually appear in front of the camera operator, rather than in the background, since they're a result of the photographer's breath. They're most common in cold weather or when the photographer is breathing heavily, as both conditions lead to more visible breath.
Breath Artifacts in Various Conditions
In cold weather, breath artifacts are particularly common because the difference in temperature between the exhaled air and the surrounding environment leads to more rapid condensation. This makes the exhaled air more visible and can create strikingly dense breath artifacts in photos.
Humidity can also play a role in the formation of breath artifacts. Higher humidity levels can increase the amount of moisture in each breath, which in turn can create larger, more visible artifacts.
Preventing Breath Artifacts
For those seeking to avoid breath artifacts in their photography, there are a few straightforward steps that can be taken. Firstly, try to hold your breath when taking photos, especially in cold or humid conditions. Secondly, position the camera so that you're not exhaling directly towards it. Lastly, use an external flash placed away from the camera lens to prevent light from being scattered back into the lens by the moisture in your breath.
In conclusion, while breath artifacts can create compellingly spooky images, they are ultimately a result of natural processes rather than paranormal phenomena. Understanding these artifacts not only helps debunk certain supernatural claims, but also provides valuable insights into the fascinating interplay of light, temperature, humidity, and our own breath.

Crop Circircles: The Mysterious Phenomenon
Crop circles, known also as crop formations, are a peculiar and intriguing phenomenon that has captured the attention of the public, media, and scientific community alike. They are patterns that suddenly appear in crop fields, often in the dead of night, leaving the plants bent over but remarkably undamaged. This marvel, which surged into prominence during the late 20th century, has since incited both awe and controversy, spawning a myriad of theories and numerous investigations.
History
While the widespread fascination with crop circles blossomed primarily in the 1980s, historical records suggest that the phenomenon itself might be considerably older. One such example is the 17th-century English woodcut known as the "Mowing Devil," depicting a demon creating a crop circle. However, this interpretation is speculative and remains a topic of debate among historians.
The contemporary history of crop circles began in the 1970s in the English county of Wiltshire. Initially, the formations were simple circles, but as years passed, they evolved into elaborate designs. Some featured intricate geometric patterns, while others were inspired by ancient symbols or mathematical theorems. By the late 80s and early 90s, thousands of crop circles had been reported across the globe.
Famous Cases
The Milk Hill formation is perhaps the most celebrated of all crop circles. Discovered in 2001 in Wiltshire, England, it boasted a striking design composed of 409 individual circles, spanning over 900 feet in diameter. This magnificent display of complexity and precision is often touted as the pinnacle of crop circle artistry.
In 1990, the Alton Barnes crop circle appeared overnight in a wheat field in Wiltshire. Resembling a pictogram with keys at the ends, this formation stimulated intense public interest, adding fuel to the then already heated debate about the origins and meaning of these crop patterns.
Scientific Explanations and Hoaxes
Despite the mystical aura surrounding crop circles, scientific investigation has largely attributed their creation to human activity. The most compelling evidence came in 1991 when Doug Bower and Dave Chorley, two Englishmen, confessed to creating hundreds of crop circles since the late 1970s using nothing more than planks, ropes, and hats. They demonstrated their technique, proving that even complex formations could be created by human hands and cunning.
However, not all crop circles could be easily explained away. Certain formations exhibited anomalies that were difficult to reconcile with the hoax theory. These included changes at the cellular level in the affected crops, elevated radiation levels, and peculiar effects on electronic equipment.
Subsequent scientific studies, though limited in number, have primarily focused on these unexplained cases. Some researchers have proposed theories involving plasma vortices, while others suggested the involvement of microwave radiation. However, none of these theories have gained universal acceptance due to a lack of conclusive evidence.
Conclusion
Crop circles, whether meticulously crafted hoaxes or manifestations of unexplained phenomena, have imprinted themselves onto the cultural and scientific landscapes. They stand as fascinating enigmas, straddling the line between the known and the inexplicable, captivating us with their beauty, complexity, and mystery. As we continue to unravel their secrets, crop circles remind us of the ceaseless allure of the unknown.

Cheltenham's Legendary Haunting: An Early Study by The Society for Psychical Research
It was the dawning days of The Society for Psychical Research when they tackled a case that would reverberate through the ages: the haunting of a quaint home in Cheltenham, a charming township situated in the western heart of England. This residence, harboring the Despard family, became the eerie theatre of events known as the Cheltenham Ghost.
Concise Synopsis
From 1882 to 1886, witnesses reported a recurring phantom - a statuesque woman swathed in black, routinely seen veiling her face with a handkerchief. The chilling sound of her footsteps echoed through the house, setting a spectral stage. The chief observer of this spectral theatre was Rosina Despard, a young woman living in the haunted dwelling. At the prompting of SPR representative, Frederic Myers, Rosina detailed her chilling encounters with the phantom in a written report, sharing not only her own spectral experiences but those of other residents as well.
The haunted house, known as 'Garden Reach,' was perched on Pitville Circus Road. It was erected in 1860 and initially hosted the Swinhoe couple. The death of his wife saw Mr. Swinhoe descend into a vortex of alcohol-fueled despair, a malady that his second wife, Imogen, also fell prey to. Their tumultuous union culminated in Imogen leaving him shortly before his death in 1876, and she herself passed away two years later. Based on an old photograph, Rosina tentatively identified the mysterious apparition as Imogen Swinhoe.
After a brief stint of a second tenancy, the house was rented by Captain FW Despard who moved in with his ailing wife and their brood of six. Post the Despard's departure in 1893, the house lay empty for a while, serving later as a school, a convent, and finally being re-purposed into apartment blocks.
Rosina's chronicle tells of her first spectral encounter in June 1882, a scant three months post the family's move. Her sightings continued sporadically over two years. She paints the specter as a tall woman, shrouded in black, her face obscured by a handkerchief. Attempts to communicate with the apparition led to a non-verbal recognition, characterized by a faint gasp. Despite Rosina's efforts, photographing the specter remained a challenge due to inadequate light and long exposure times required.
In the summer months of July and August 1884, the ghostly appearances escalated, involving multiple eye-witnesses. However, by 1887, these sightings started dwindling, disappearing altogether by 1889. When the Despard family vacated in 1892, no further supernatural encounters were reported.
Frederic Myers, representing the Society for Psychical Research, visited the haunted household from 1886 onward. Rosina, with her scientific background and aspiration to become a physician, impressed him, and he found her and other witnesses' accounts credible. To Myers, the Cheltenham haunting emerged as one of the most fascinating and well-supported instances of a haunting. He commended the Despard family for their unusual lack of superstitious fears.
Continued Interest in the Paranormal
In the annals of paranormal investigations, the case of the Cheltenham haunting holds a special place. Renowned author GNM Tyrrell viewed the Cheltenham specter as an echo of a past life. Esteemed psychologist Alan Gauld described it as the "most extraordinary phantom," and "the most bewildering case ever brought to light." In 2011, Bryan Williams of the Psychical Research Foundation praised the case for its unique cocktail of shared spectral experiences, potential location memory, ESP amongst observers, and the intangible-yet-tangible nature of the apparition.
To ensure the Despards' privacy, the original report used the pseudonym 'Morton', leading to occasional references to this event as the 'Morton Case'.

The Haunts and History of Euharlee, GA (including an account from our own investigation)
Nestled at the convergence of the Euharlee Creek and Etowah River, one finds the tranquil city of Euharlee. This region's natural beauty and rich resources have attracted inhabitants for millennia, initially the Native Americans, with the Cherokee being the last tribe to utilize these fertile lands and waterways. Interestingly, the city's name, Euharlee, translates from a Native American term to "She laughs as she runs," symbolizing the gentle murmur of the creek flowing into the river.
In 1832, the State of Georgia divided the former Cherokee territory into ten counties, one of which was initially known as Cass County, today recognized as Bartow. European settlers started flocking to the region around 1834, lured by the fertile soil and abundant water resources, ideal for irrigation and power generation. Originally named Burge's Mill, the community developed around a mill constructed by Nathaniel Burge on Euharlee Creek. As the settlement grew, the area saw the construction of cotton gins, stores, churches, schools, and even a militia courthouse.
The town's growth led to its incorporation as Euharleyville in 1852, boasting a population close to 2300 at the time. However, by 1870, the town was rebranded as Euharlee. An important landmark in the town is the historic covered bridge that spans Euharlee Creek, built in 1886 by Washington W. King and Jonathan Burke. Washington was the son of renowned bridge builder and emancipated slave, Horace King.
Agriculture has always been a vital aspect of Euharlee's life and economy. The tradition of farming continues, with several families still depending on it. Various churches and community organizations from the 1800s still exist, and the Euharlee Farmers Club, established in 1883, holds the record of being the oldest operating farmers club worldwide.
However, the city experienced a population decline following the Civil War and into the early twentieth century. In 1970, the population fell to just 65 residents. Yet, following a re-charter in 1976, Euharlee has seen a resurgence in residential and economic growth.
The serenity of rural Georgia has attracted people for centuries. Particularly the Northwest Georgia countryside, with its clear, star-filled nights and quietude, has become a sanctuary for those desiring a more straightforward lifestyle. Yet, Georgia, much like the rest of the world, has its own share of shadowy history that sometimes leaves an eerie remnant behind.
Euharlee, GA, a small city with a few notable landmarks like a mercantile, a courthouse, a museum, a library, and a covered bridge, embodies such history. It bears the scars of the Civil War, with Union General William T. Sherman and his 130,000 soldiers marching through Cartersville and directly into Euharlee. Relics of the war and remnants of trenches are scattered across the region, with Sherman having set up camp on a parcel of land now known as Tilley Mill.
Tilley Mill, named after Joe and Betty Jane Tilley who bought the property in 1994, has an intriguing reputation. Despite being in ruins now, the area is buzzing with reports of strange occurrences and unexplained phenomena, bolstered by the circulation of uncanny tales. These stories originate from the original mill built by the Rogers family around 1848, before the civil war, and the adjacent Mount Zion Cemetery, discovered when the Tilleys had the grounds surveyed.
Amidst these strange tales, one recurring narrative is that of supernatural experiences surrounding the tombstone of a certain Leddy Rogers. According to reports, Leddy's presence appears to make itself known to men only, creating chilling, inexplicable experiences. The Tilley Mill is not the only site of such spectral encounters; the town center of Euharlee holds its own fair share of paranormal activity.
The Euharlee covered bridge, built in 1886 over the Euharlee Creek, is infamous for being one of North Georgia's most paranormally active places. Local lore spins tales of a traveling witch who cursed the town after being denied food and shelter. The aftereffects of this curse allegedly included a series of horrific events that have since been woven into local legend, such as a young girl being kidnapped, assaulted, and hanged from the bridge's rafters, and a mother who, in her grief of losing her child, committed su***de at the same
As you meander through the serene town, slow down, and lend an ear to the whisperings of the past. Be aware, for the restless spirits of Euharlee may be expecting you.
Our Investigation of Euharlee
I, Chris, and my group, the Paulding Paranormal Society, embarked on an expedition to probe the entire town of Euharlee in its mysterious entirety. Our journey extended from the local police station to the historical bridge, the quaint old mercantile, and even the town's restaurant.
At the bridge and police station, we delved into a realm often reserved for the unknown. We made use of the Spirit Box, a tool often used by paranormal investigators to communicate with entities in the afterlife. Although our encounters here were intriguing, they were relatively scarce compared to what awaited us next.
The old mercantile store, however, brought forth experiences that were far from ordinary. As we navigated its eerie confines, we were met with a growl emanating from an unseen entity. An invisible yet potent force appeared to animate the very screws that lay scattered around the room. Thrown with such force, these screws bounced off the opposing wall and spun on the floor, creating a chilling symphony of paranormal activity.
The events at the old store reinforced the mystical aura of Euharlee, making our paranormal investigation a memorable exploration into the town's ethereal side. As each experience unfolded, we discovered that the whispers of Euharlee's past were not merely tales passed down through generations, but an unseen reality waiting to be explored by those brave enough to confront it. The secrets of Euharlee had spoken to us that night, etching a permanent imprint of its spectral legacy on our minds.
