Today I tried my hand at getting back to making more complicated filati with the lampworking torch, it has been almost a year and a half since I tried. The past few weeks I have been pulling triangles, flat-ish and round shapes using smalti tiles. I did a batch where I had to mix white and verde master tints together to make a turquoise color (it went well) and I spectacularly failed at mixing green/yellow tiles and an attempt to mix purple tiles and add red and white elements. Those 2 attempts were so bad I immediately threw them in the trash! Nothing to salvage, the coefficients weren't compatible and they were ugly too 😂.
But those 2 failures inspired me to sit down at the torch this morning to attempt to make eyes and leaves. The first attempt at eyes was a dud, but I had been skeptical of that approach anyway. I also had forgotten how the glass rods behaved, how to add glass and take it away without getting the rod and piece stuck together, etc. So I tried again with a better approach and memory of what to do coming back...and it worked!
Hopefully I'll be able to repeat these successes in the future!! 😅
I particularly want more of the leaves.

These were so much fun to make! Set in new custom made stainless steel bezels that I have been patiently waiting for (weeks and weeks!) I have many more planned, but must be patient :)

I don't usually make big/long earrings, however they are fun and show off perfectly when you have short hair (like me!) Yesterday I started the process of making more of the elements I use, so that I can make more.

So, it has been a year since diagnosis and treatment started...and a wild ride! From going from walking, to losing use of my right arm and leg (making me dependent on my husband and a wheelchair), to undergoing 10 sessions of whole brain radiation, then chemo every 3 weeks (still happening), to months of physical therapy which returned me to walking and working! Let me tell you, at one point I was having to to lift and move my right arm with my left arm and double checking it wasn't hanging out a car door before closing it, or making sure I wasn't sitting or laying on it. I had no awareness of it, I couldn't make my fingers touch my thumb, couldn't hold anything with it. It was dead to me. BUT IT IS BACK!!! It might not be perfect, but it is close enough and I'm so grateful for that! I am also able to walk (and jog a tiny bit)!

This past week I've had an abdomen, chest, and brain scan. No new tumors, the ones I do have are stable, and many have shrunk from their original size. Great news!!

So I am thrilled with my progress and current status, and thankful to all of you for all the thoughts, prayers, messages, donations, and more!

I'm going to to keep on keeping on, and if anything changes, I'll roll with the punches. But I feel very loved and very blessed, and very grateful for everything ❤️

Now go and enjoy your day and make those memories!
