FALL LEARN TO PLAY PROGRAM - STARTS SOON!!

Once again Saugerties Youth Hockey and the Kiwanis Ice Arena are partnering with the NY Rangers on their Junior Rangers Learn to Play hockey program, which starts soon on October 19.

The Junior Rangers Learn to Play program is geared to new players ages 5 to 10, looking to try hockey for the first time. Rangers staff and former Rangers players teach new players the basics of the game, in a fun environment, on Sunday mornings.

The Fall 2025 program starts Sunday October 19; every new player receives a full set of new hockey equipment.

Its with a heavy heart we learned about Coach Pete Gianatiempo, who ran our Junior Rangers program from 2018 through 2022.

Sticks out Coach, and you will always be with us.

The Danbury Hat Tricks organization is deeply saddened by the passing of Pete Gianatiempo.

Pete was a pillar of the Danbury hockey community, coaching in our Girls Hat Tricks program, helping establish the Danbury Bravehearts Adaptive Hockey Program, working with USA Sled Hockey, and serving as a lead instructor for the New York Rangers Learn to Play program.

Beyond the rink, Pete was a retired NYPD Detective, a 9/11 first responder, and worked in Humane Law Enforcement with the SPCA of Westchester.

“Pete exemplified the true meaning that hockey is for everyone. The impact he made through the programs he led and the lives he touched will never be forgotten.” — Danbury Ice Arena GM Nick Garofalo

Our thoughts are with Pete’s family, friends, players, and all whose lives he touched through the game he loved 🧡🖤

Saugerties Youth Hockey is hosting a Try Hockey for Free event on Saturday September 13 at 11:45 AM, at the Kiwanis Ice Arena.

Current coaches & players will be on hand to help & show new players find out how much fun ice hockey is.

A limited supply of loaner equipment is available – please arrive at the rink by 10:45 AM if you need to borrow equipment.
