e will take on each project one by one in an attempt to help these shelters and organizations better serve the community and find dogs a “fur-ever” home. The amount of need we will encounter in our discussions with the local shelters and rescues will be infinite. These organizations are inundated every day with new dogs that have been found or dropped off or rescued and they all need a home. Now that many counties have gone no-kill this has made their job more difficult in many ways because they are limited in space. We will do everything in our power to raise funds to put towards projects that will help them find homes for these dogs so they can take in the ever-growing list of awaiting dogs. This will include everything from giving the adoption center a makeover to finding a trainer for a particularly poorly behaved dog to education programs centered on the services of shelters and rescues, spaying/neutering and rescuing versus purchasing a dog. One of the greatest issues surrounding animal shelters is what we like to call the revolving door epidemic. There are so many dogs that are brought into a shelter and the shelter spends a lot of time and resources getting this dog to be adopted. Within days or weeks, the dog is then returned to the shelter due to behavior issues. Thus the cycle begins because most shelters have too many dogs and not enough volunteers to really give all their animals enough time to help them overcome any behavioral issues they might have or develop in the shelter. The shelters are doing everything they can to save abused and neglected and abandoned dogs, so we can’t blame them for this epidemic. Our goal is to help these shelters try to cut down on the revolving door epidemic by taking it one dog at a time. We will work with some amazing trainers who will help us to take the “troubled” dogs and train to their behavior need. Our hope is to train these dogs so that once they find a forever home, they will not be returned due to a behavioral issue. It is also our belief that education is key to helping keep dogs out of the shelters and rescues we are assisting. We will also create an educational program to help kids understand the role that rescues and shelters play in rescuing homeless and abandoned dogs. Of course, helping to decrease the number of puppies born every year would help the problem immensely. The educational program will explain the importance of spaying and neutering your dog to help the homeless pet problem. Of course, we will also show the students the pros of rescuing a dog as opposed to buying a puppy from a pet store. We hope that our message will help the future generation understand the epidemic we are facing and give them tools to help solve the problem.
