Our friends at the Sarasota Bull Sharks are back at home this Saturday as they take on the Jacksonville Axemen in a huge USARL matchup.

Several familiar Sarasota Rugby faces will be taking the field, and they’re looking to pack the sidelines with local rugby supporters.

🦈 A new chapter of rugby in Sarasota begins this weekend.

While Sarasota Rugby Club continues to grow our youth and rugby union programs, we’re excited to support the Sarasota Bullsharks Rugby League as they kick off their inaugural Rugby League season this Saturday.

The Bull Sharks call our home pitch home, train alongside members of our rugby community, and are helping bring another version of the game to Sarasota.

Join us in wishing them luck as they take the field for their first official league match.

Seeing Sarasota Rugby and the inaugural Siesta 7s featured by SRQ Magazine is honestly surreal.

This tournament was built by players, volunteers, sponsors, vendors, friends, families, and a community willing to take a chance on growing rugby here in Sarasota.

What started as conversations, beach practices, and late nights planning turned into an incredible day on Siesta Key.

Thank you to every team, player, supporter, vendor, and volunteer who helped make this happen.

This is only the beginning. 🌊

Gladiators on Siesta Key - SRQ Daily May 21, 2026 This past Saturday, May 16, was about as picturesque a day one can dream up on Siesta Key. The sun sat high, glimmering down onto the white sand beneath, the temperature creeping up into the mid-80s. The usual sounds filled the beach—children laughing, speakers blaring and…screaming men?

What does “growing the game” actually look like?

It’s not just highlights.
It’s not just posts.
It’s showing up.

It’s inviting somebody to their first practice.
It’s bringing a friend to the pitch.
It’s building something people want to be part of.

It’s coaches staying late.
Volunteers showing up early.
Clubs taking risks.
Communities coming together.

That’s how rugby grows.
Person by person.
Club by club.

A lot of people say they want to grow the game.
The ones that actually do it are out there putting in the work when nobody sees it.
