The Root

Alocasia sinuata ‘Aurea’ 💚✨

There’s something about sinuata that already feels a little more refined than most Alocasia; the deeply textured, almost sculpted foliage gives it so much presence even before you add variegation.

Then you get the aurea. 🌿💛

Instead of stark white contrast, the variegation comes through in shades of lime, chartreuse, yellow, and deep green; every leaf develops its own pattern and the color shifts beautifully as the plant matures. Paired with that heavily quilted sinuata texture, it creates a look that feels almost painted onto the foliage.

This is exactly the kind of plant we love bringing into THE ROOT; unusual genetics, incredible texture, and enough variation that every plant has its own personality. 🖤

Alocasia sinuata ‘Aurea’ is available now in limited supply. 🌱✨

Anthurium ‘Wonderboy’ × ‘Michelle Variegated’ 🖤🌿

This is one of those crosses we chose because the genetics are genuinely exciting; not just because the name sounds good.

Both parents bring that darker, more refined look we love; deep foliage, strong venation, and the potential for really beautiful contrast as the plant matures. With ‘Michelle Variegated’ in the mix, there’s also the added possibility of variegation expressing in completely unique ways from plant to plant; which is what makes growing a cross like this so much fun. ✨

What we love most is that no two seedlings are guaranteed to look exactly alike. You’re watching the genetics unfold in real time; shape, color, veining, darkness, and variegation all developing as the plant grows. That unpredictability is part of what makes a dark block cross like this so special. 🖤

We only brought in a limited number because we wanted this to feel curated; not mass produced.

Available now in limited supply at THE ROOT. 🌱✨

Begonia ‘Carnival’ 🎭🌿

This is exactly the kind of plant that reminds me why begonias deserve way more attention from serious collectors. 🖤

The color is ridiculous in person — metallic silver through the center of the leaf, deep green underneath it, burgundy around the margins, and bright pink running through the veins and edges. ✨🌸 Depending on the light, the whole plant shifts between silver, green, pink, and w**e tones.

What I love most is that it doesn’t rely on one single trait to stand out. The texture, the metallic finish, the contrast, the pink veining, the darker new growth — it all works together. 🌱 It’s dramatic without looking artificial, and mature plants have a ridiculous amount of presence.

Definitely one of the most visually interesting begonias we’ve brought into THE ROOT. 👀🖤

Begonia ‘Carnival’ is now available in TC. 🌿✨

THE ROOT NUTRIENT GUIDE 🌱

After Sunday’s live, we received an incredible number of messages asking exactly what we feed our plants and how we achieve the growth, rooting, and overall plant quality you see coming out of The Root.

So, rather than answering everyone individually, we decided to share our complete nutrient routine.

This is the feeding program we personally use at The Root Rare Plants. Our plants receive these recipes with every watering, following the stages and measurements outlined in the guide.

A quick note: this is not a sponsored post or endorsement of Botanicare, General Hydroponics, SNS, or any other brand shown. We have no affiliation with these companies. These are simply the products we currently use and have had success with. There are many excellent nutrient products and growing methods available, and if you already have a system that works well for your plants, there is absolutely no reason you need to change it.

We’re sharing this because so many of you have asked what we specifically do. Rather than keeping our process behind closed doors, we wanted to give our community a polished, easy-to-follow version of the same routine we use ourselves.

One of our priorities at The Root is providing exceptional plants, but we also want our customers to be successful after those plants leave our care. Proper nutrition, accurate measurements, correct pH, cleanliness, and consistency all play a role in producing the strong roots and healthy growth we strive for.

Save these three pages for reference, and as always, pay attention to what your individual plants are telling you and follow the manufacturer’s label directions for every product you use.

🌸 Alocasia Chantrieri Pink Variegated 🌸

There’s a reason these are so sought after — and so expensive. Chantrieri is already known for its incredibly dark, glossy foliage, but the pink variegated form is on another level.

True pink genetics like this are still extremely hard to come by, especially with strong color and contrast. That deep almost-black foliage against bright pink makes every new leaf completely different, which is a huge part of the appeal for collectors.

This one is showing serious pink already. 🖤🩷 And as it matures, those leaves only get more impressive.

Definitely not something you see every day — even in the rare plant world.

ALOCASIA LAUTERBACHIANA MINT VARIEGATED 🖤🌿

Sharp. Sculptural. Completely unapologetic.

This isn’t your everyday Alocasia. Lauterbachiana Mint Variegated takes those unmistakable long, serrated leaves and breaks them up with unpredictable washes of mint, cream, and deep green. Every new leaf gets to write its own pattern. ✨

The contrast is insane; an already dramatic species elevated by variegation that looks almost painted across the foliage. 🤍🌿

Another collector piece joining The Root — because ordinary was never really our thing. 🖤

Musa ‘Florida’ Variegated 🤍🌿

There are variegated plants, and then there are plants that completely take over a room.

Musa ‘Florida’ is one of those pieces. Long, architectural leaves streaked in clean white and deep green give it a look that feels almost designed rather than grown. As it matures, the scale only gets more dramatic.

Bold. Sculptural. Impossible to ignore.

A statement plant in every sense of the word. ✨

Available through The Root.

Alocasia Yucatán Princess Pink Variegated 🌿✨

There’s something almost couture about this one.

Deep, glossy green leaves cut with soft blush-pink variegation, subtle marbling, and those darker veins that give every leaf a completely different look. It has presence without needing to be loud; elegant, unusual, and unmistakably collector-grade.

The kind of plant that doesn’t just fill a space. It defines it. 🖤

Alocasia Cuprea Latte ☕️🖤

This one is ridiculous in person. The leaves shift between bronze, olive, gold and deep copper depending on the light, with that signature metallic Cuprea finish that almost looks painted on.

It has that rare combination of being unusual without needing crazy variegation to make an impact. The texture, color and shape do all the work.

Definitely one of the standout Cupreas in the collection right now. ✨🌿
