Oh Ray Ray !
We met Ray Ray when he was in a predicament. You see, he had fractured his femur somehow and he didn’t seem to know it!
The friendliest young boy ever, he never turns down a chance to rub all over you whether he’s using 3 legs or 4.
Luckily for him, young cats heal fast and we were able to fit him in on our flex day, for his fracture repair. Within 6 weeks he was back, and fully healed as you can see.
We love to fix kitties here at RRVSS as much as we love fixing dogs.
The bonus that came with Ray Ray was a pride of young brothers that followed for neuters the following week.
Thanks Ray Ray! Onward.

Mid week cuteness…..Meet Pinto who loved the heated kennels at RRVSS! So much so that we affectionately started called him “Baked Bean”! 😂🔥

This week started off by celebrating National Veterinary Receptionist Appreciation Week and ended with World Veterinary Day!
There are not enough words to express our gratitude for Linda, who is so much more than our receptionist. She is the backbone of our team! From answering phones, booking consultations and surgeries, to helping fix the mop-it, Linda does it all and we are oh so thankful for her! 🙌
In honor of world veterinary day we want to express our appreciation for Dr. Fetherston and Dr. Helms. Their commitment to the veterinary profession is recognized by the vital role they, and all veterinarians, play in animal health, welfare, public health, and food safety. 🤍🐾

Lena was brought to RRVSS by for evaluation of her not using her left front limb. Radiographs showed a chronic fracture of the radius and ulna just below and involving the elbow. This joint was very immobile and painful as well as the wrist would not extend properly.
Unfortunately, her limb trauma was not something we could fix at this point, and amputation was recommended.
While we assessed her other limbs to determine if she had any irregularities that would affect her as a tripod, we found that both back limbs had medial Luxation of the patella. (Her knee caps pop out) and the joint surfaces there did not feel smooth indicating arthritis/cartilage wearing.
Her first patella correction surgery was performed on the back right to give her a good limb opposite her bad left front.
She will have her back left corrected in 6-8 weeks. Once healed from those and doing well she can finally have her chronically painful, non-usable left front limb amputated! Lena is the sweetest and best patient! And she rocks a permanent white Mohawk so Dr. Fetherston only felt it was appropriate to rock a matching one on his surgery cap! 👯 🤍🐾

Lena is keeping us on our toes! First surgery is in the books. We are so grateful to be a part of her healing journey ❤️‍🩹

Thank you doctors.

Lena is out of surgery and resting at home❤️

Lena’s first surgery (her right rear leg) was today with our friends at RRVSS

The surgery was waaaaay more complicated than expected when they got in there but the end result is all good. Shes sleepy but fine. She has been just the sweetest gentlest easiest girl and the doctors and staff all adore her.

Darling Lena was found on the streets with a badly broken front leg and serious luxating patella’s on bath back legs. She only has one good leg. She was found with her adorable 3 month old pup, Loni, who also joined us.

On her left front leg both the radius and ulna are broken and it’s an old injury. The elbow and wrist are both semi-fused. The entire leg is non weight bearing and non functional and pretty much no amount of surgery will change that. Now the question is, do we amputate or leave it? We’re trying to determine if it’s painful and how it affects her quality of life. Most likely it will need to come off. In addition to that, she has luxating patella’s (kneecaps) on both back legs. The first surgery was today. She will have to have a surgery on the other back leg in 6-8 weeks.

Lena is an 18 pound poodle type mix, sweet, gentle, mellow, affectionate and easy to handle. Shes good with people and other dogs and gets along with everyone. We’re guessing her at 2-3 years old.

We’re accepting applications now for this good girl although it may be a while before she’s ready. To apply go to the website link on our profile.

We’re prepped and ready for Lena’s first surgery tomorrow. 🤍🐾

Sweet Lena ❤️

Lena’s first surgery is scheduled for Tuesday with our friends at RRVSS. She has been just the sweetest easiest girl. Good with people and other dogs and gets along with everyone.

Lena was an angel at the vet and the doctors and staff all loved her. During her thorough orthopedic exam and X-rays, they found that her right front leg is normal and healthy and functional. The bad news is, that’s her only good limb.

It’s hard to tell how much those are bothering her because she’s already non weight bearing on the front leg and can’t relieve any discomfort by limping on the back as easily. Most likely she will have to have surgery on both back legs, 6-8 weeks apart.
