Update from the City of Santa, latest picture of the Power Dam (January 29, 2026). We have previously provided a story about the rebuilding of Power Dam which is projected to be completed in November 2026. The two pictures shown indicates the dam is nearly 70% complete. This is good news for SR!

Citizens of Santa Rosa, community friends, and all who cherish the City of Natural Lakes—
The two photos highlight the exciting progress underway at Power Dam. As many of you know, this historic landmark is on track to be fully restored and operational by November 2026. After major breaches in 1993 and again in 2013, our community has patiently awaited the return of a place that holds deep recreational, environmental, and cultural significance.
Prior to 1993, Power Dam was a cherished rainbow trout fishing destination along El Rito Creek. What makes this location truly remarkable is its rarity—one of the few places in the world where a high-altitude, cold-water fishery thrives within a semi-arid climate, made possible by the constant 62-degree water flowing from the Blue Hole.
Reconstruction of the dam is being led by Moltz Construction of Colorado, with total construction and engineering costs estimated at $12.5 million. This important investment reflects the City’s long-term commitment to restoring a treasured natural resource while creating lasting recreational, environmental, and economic opportunities for our residents and visitors.
After 32 years, the City of Santa Rosa is proud and excited to bring Power Dam back to life. We look forward to welcoming residents and visitors alike to once again enjoy this iconic destination—celebrating the natural beauty, outdoor recreation, and unique experiences that make Santa Rosa so special.
The City of Santa Rosa extends its sincere appreciation to New Mexico State Agencies, our Legislative Partners, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Mayor and City Council for their leadership, advocacy, and support in securing funding for this historic rebuild. We will continue to provide updates as construction progresses toward its completion.
