This past month, we highlighted Sadia, a farmworker and mother living at Mahonia Glen in Santa Rosa. Her story is a powerful reminder of what a stable home can make possible.

One of the questions we hear often at Generation Housing is why we support or endorse housing projects that are primarily market-rate or include only a limited number of affordable homes. It is a question that recently came up in conversations about the Esmeralda project in Cloverdale.

The answer is simple: a healthy housing market needs homes at every price point. When people have more housing choices, it creates opportunities throughout the market, helping more homes become available and easing pressure on housing costs over time.

This short podcast from The Pew Charitable Trusts explains the research behind what economists call "moving chains" and shows how building new homes, including market-rate housing, can ultimately benefit lower-income households and make housing more accessible for everyone.
