One day, we’ll be able to tell the whole story — for her, because she deserves it, and for any other family who might ever find themselves in a moment like this.

Our sweet baby girl, Ella Reese, decided to make her entrance into the world in true Reese fashion — early, fast, and full of personality. She arrived on October 21st at 7:13 in the morning. We went in for an emergency C-section, there she was - tiny, feisty, and perfect. She didn’t need any help with anything. She was thriving. We were completely in love. We visited her every single day, and even got to hold her once — something we will cherish forever.

On Sunday, they called to let us know that she was having some issues and might need to be transferred to Pensacola. We were able to visit with her that day, but by the evening she had to be transported. They suspected an infection, and she was started on antibiotics, but her little body just couldn’t fight it off.

We were sent to Sacred Heart in Pensacola. The Ronald McDonald House offered us a stay for the duration of what we had hoped to be a much longer time with our baby, but we wouldn’t leave her side. We do appreciate their support. It meant so much in the hardest moments of our lives.
She was surrounded by doctors and nurses the entire day. They tried surgery, and we were faced with choices no parent should ever have to make. Our brave little girl had fought so hard, but there was nothing that could be done. She had six days with us.
She passed away in our arms on Monday night.

If we can say anything at all, it’s this: hold your babies tight. Hold the people you love tight. You never know how quickly everything can change — how something so perfect, that you love so deeply, can be gone in an instant.

Our lives are forever changed. We won’t let her story just be one of sadness, because she was so much more than that. She was light. She was strength. She was love.

We love you, baby girl. We are so, so sorry.
