End of day essentials. How long do you typically flush your outboards when running in salt water?

The more you understand your tackle, the better your chances of winning the fight are. Here’s a one minute lesson on the physics of reel drag and why you might not want to touch it during a fight.

Line tension actually increases as the fish takes line out. Drag might not change, but the force (line tension) required to overcome it does. There’s additional factors, like reel temperatures, rod angles, and the line friction/drag of more line in the water. I did the math for the reels I like to use - if anyone wants to see it.

We typically use line slightly higher than the rated max drag, so we know how much wiggle room we have (and how much hand drag to give if we need to!)

The biggest failure point is still probably your knot though. :)

GPS Coordinates? But why? Which one is which?

Latitude has been used for centuries to determine how far north and south you were. It’s as easy as finding the angle of a celestial body above the horizon.

Longitude on the other hand, was a different animal. Figuring this out involved inventing watches and accurate clocks, which wasn’t even accomplished until about the time of the American Revolution! This is a whole long fascinating story for another time. By comparing your local time to a reference time, you can calculate how far east or west you are.
