My 2 Valentines. What cuties, right? I’m one LUCKY lady.

Still, nobody talks about the crazy LEADING UP to Valentine’s Day… all the things that have nothing to do with the love that I carry for each one. Shall we make a list?

💘 the class treats
💘 the class cookies
💘 the class Vday candy grams
💘 the roses
💘 and heart shape chocolate
💘 and plush teddies with chocolate
💘 and probably 10 other things I’m forgetting…

Valentine’s Day revolves around sweets and treats. It’s cute…and fun, but at the same time it’s overkill. And overwhelming for this mom.

When you are trying to make sure that your babies are 1) safe and 2) included, you start to ask yourself, is this really necessary?

My response this year?

Yes.

At the end of the day, if I don’t step up and make the effort to help my boys feel included, then they will, inevitably, be left out. And that is a tough place to be for a kid.

Don’t get me wrong, there are so many beautiful, empathetic people in their circle that think about them, and go the extra mile to make sure that they are celebrated. And I LOVE each one of them for that. But even so, at the end of the day, the buck stops with me.

So…going into this holiday, and many more to come, I’m going to put my game face on and bake better.

Celebrate better.

Love better.

And I invite you to join me.

Does that mean I’m gonna buy all the sugars and processed candy to make up for the fact that my boys have food allergies and aren’t like the rest of the peers?

Nope. They can still feel included and enjoy delicious treats without including all of the other things that don’t serve their bodies.

But I am going to show up. ✌🏼

Isn’t simplicity pretty?

This beauty could be YOURS, cooling on your kitchen counter. 😘

The thing is, baking truly starts with the simple confidence that you commit to building in yourself. Here are 3 ways that I slowly built my confidence when I started teaching myself how to bake.

1. I started with EASY recipes and allergen-free options to ease into baking. Nothing extravagant. The LESS steps and ingredients, the better.

2. I planned a weekly baking session (with myself only) to build my confidence and consistency. It was usually on the weekend when I knew I had a 1-2 hour window of free time to help me feel relaxed about the venture.

3. I experimented with substitutions to personalize my creations. Learning how different types of plant milks or grain-free flours acted in a recipe formed the base of my understanding about which ingredients played well together and which ones did not.

These 3 steps helped me gradually embrace the joy of homemade treats while weaning away from store-bought brands.

It’s amazing what a little confidence can do. ✨

PLANNING. It’s the key to simplicity in the kitchen. It’s the answer to quieting your everyday chaos. And it’s the solution to building your confidence!

Take, for example, the banana chocolate chip muffins in the picture above. I didn’t come up with them overnight. I developed the recipe over and over with time and also with great purpose. I knew that someday they would be part of my plan to fuel my family.

Now they are and I am so grateful! Every week, I plan out baking a batch and they ultimately serve as a resource for my family’s protein and sweet fix.

Did it take work? Yes. But was it worth it?

Totally. 👌

I have been quiet lately, really contemplating how I can ACTUALLY empower YOU all, my fierce + beautiful tribe, to live an even more fulfilling life.

As a mother and former teacher, I am dedicated to providing wholesome nutritious solutions. It’s what I know and it’s what I do best.

But, I also know firsthand, that we all are very limited on the time & energy that we can truly commit to providing well balanced meals to ourselves and our babies. It’s NOT easy.

If you are reading this, I’d really love to know……

Just a mini photo shoot taken by my littles to share with you on this Tuesday ☺️

Today….we baked, we met new families, we glazed, we rolled out dough, we served the community coffee and cinnamon rolls…..we packed, we baked some more, and we rolled out some more pizza dough for shipments.

It was a long day for these boys, but they handled it with a good deal of grit and grace….and it felt like a true team effort.

I’m grateful that I can show my boys what it truly means to build something that matters.

After it all, we wrapped the day up by going and buying a Nerf gun from target with our tip money! 💰 Today, I’m going to call this winning.
