Go Bertie Go

Bertie and I have been hanging with the Texas T’s these past few days. We did a little bit of everything and had a whole lot of fun!

Our last few days of camping this trip were so much fun! The Girl Camper group is a community that encourages women to explore the outdoors with the motto “ no wrong way to camp like a girl”. We had an evening tour that demonstrated that, and a unique opportunity to paddle and paint with the “Artist Boat”.

We are back in Texas to attend our first “Girl Camper” Camporee at Camp Margaritaville. The resort is beautiful, but the beach and water aren’t quite like Florida. Looking forward to a few fun filled days here with 160 women from 27 different states!

Bertie and I spent our last couple of nights Moochdocking in Tallahassee. Our first for this trip, but our third time to stay with our Texas friends from Kellye, Jeb, Mazie and Nonni. They always make us feel so welcome with home cooked meals, warm conversations, and each time I see something new.

After leaving the racetrack, Bertie and I stayed an extra night in Daytona at the Endless Summer Campground and did a little exploring. The sun returned, and the view from the top of the lighthouse was lovely.

The World Center of Racing became the world center of Winnie B’s this week. The weather was not typical for the sunshine state, but we had an outstanding indoor meeting space in the middle of the Daytona 500 racetrack. We enjoyed the extra time indoors together playing cards, chatting about our vans, playing BINGO, sharing ideas about travel, wine tasting, and laughing a lot! ♥️🐝🚐

Another one night stop at one of my favorite parks on our way to Daytona. It’s a fantastic place to stay, but extra awesome because it’s across from a natural bird rookery that I visited in 2024. So many birds so little time!

Bertie and I spent one quick night at this lovely state park as we headed south back into Florida. I enjoyed my daily beach walk and added to my growing shell collection. Great campsite too!

Our only stop in Georgia this trip was to visit Tom and Lynice who live on the Saint Simons Island. The campground where we stay is on a neighboring Jeykll Island and right across from the beautiful Driftwood Beach. It’s always wonderful to spend time with the them and camping on Jeykll Island is pretty great as well.

Our last stop along the Florida panhandle coastline was the beautiful Grayton Beach State Park. It has a fabulous beach and bike trails that deliver you to nearby coastal towns like Seaside, Blue Mountain and Santa Rosa Beach. It was a great way to end our time on the gulf coast, and I was super lucky that Denise, a fellow Winnie B, was camping here, and she invited me to dinner. 😁
