This is a new sculpture by Liz Wolf. It is titled When Two Travel as One and it's a bronze edition of 25, 20 x 6 1/2 x 7.4."
Let's hear about this piece directly from Liz.
"In When Two Travel as One, the human figure takes on the shape of the raven, becoming something between human and animal—a shapeshifter. Images that are part human and part animal have existed for thousands of years. One of the earliest known examples is found in a cave in France, dating to approximately 13,000 B.C. Shapeshifting is the transformation from one form into another, from human to animal and, perhaps, from the familiar into the unknown."
In When Two Travel as One, I imagine what it might be like to become the raven—to enter its
intelligence, its curiosity, its vision, and its mysterious way of moving through the world. Who wouldn’t want to shape shift into a raven, even for a moment, and see through the raven’s eyes, feel through the raven’s spirit, and perhaps glimpse the world through the raven’s mind?
Aaron will be in the gallery for the rest of the week creating new works for his exhibition and speaking with collectors. Our Weekend with Aaron Hazel opens Friday, August 14 with a special reception from 5 to 7PM.
We are beyond thrilled to welcome the work of Greg Mayer to Manitou Galleries!
Come by and meet Greg Mayer and view his work at our Indian Market Open House
Thursday, August 13
5:00 - 7:00pm
At first glance, Greg Mayer’s work appears to be striking black-and-white portraiture. Step closer, and the illusion transforms into something completely different.
Each monumental image is constructed from thousands of recycled LEGOs and building blocks, with Mayer hand-painting only their top surfaces. As viewers move around the work, flashes of hidden color emerge, inviting them to look beyond first impressions.
Living with color blindness has deeply influenced both Mayer’s artistic vision and his understanding of humanity. Like the colors concealed within his portraits, he believes a person’s story, resilience, heritage, and identity can only be understood by looking beyond assumptions and stereotypes.

If you see something you like at Manitou you better act quickly. Jerry Jordan brought this new painting, A Lifetime of Living in One Day (30 x 40"), to the gallery on Friday and it was sold before it even hung on the wall. We are posting it now because it's a beautiful painting and give all of you an opportunity to see it as well.
