LEGEND (1916), Man Ray… When Objects Dream…”Man Ray expressed his subjects as much through interconnected geometric shapes or differentiated paint application as with recognizable forms. Legend is perhaps the purest example of this approach.”

DANCE (1915) Man Ray…It reflects what he called the “concentration of life” and his view that art required a condensation of form and content into two dimensions, or “the pure plane of expression.” What a wonderful show at the MET: Man Ray - When Objects Dream.

Classic period Rio Grande blanket, item #2389, circa 1860, 86” by 49”. While this blanket lacks the traditional Christmas colors, it still has a very Christmassy feel the way the center meets into diamonds and then radiates out with the zig zags like energy waves. This blanket spreads all sorts of cheer! Currently on view at the gallery.

Happy Father’s Day Dad! Been 10 years now, and your paintings get more alive every day. I really miss you, but for now, your art serves as a temporal replacement.

An early Navajo Ketoh that was likely modified by adding the stone some time ago. The wear to the edges shows that it was much used. The commercial hide is a more recent addition. Available. DM or go to https://jamescomptongallery.com/collection/an-early-navajo-ketoh-with-turquoise/.
