๐ŸŽ‰ Thatโ€™s a Wrap on Our Summer Safety Heroes Program! ๐Ÿฆธโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿš’โ˜€๏ธ

What an amazing 10 weeks it has been! We are incredibly proud of every child and family who joined us, learned new safety skills, completed challenges, and truly became Summer Safety Heroes.

From fire and water safety to first aid, bike safety, and heat awareness, our young heroes gained life-saving knowledge they can use to protect themselves and others. Even more special was seeing families learning together, children asking about smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, and practicing life jacket safety at home. Thatโ€™s exactly the impact we hoped for!

A heartfelt thank you to our community partners who made this program possible, especially UTMB for providing mini first aid kits to help our Safety Heroes continue practicing at home. And to our parents and families; thank you for your time, encouragement, and participation. Your support made all the difference.

๐Ÿ… Did your child earn a Safety Hero award? Weโ€™d love to celebrate them! Please send us a photo via Facebook Messenger so we can highlight our amazing heroes in a special recognition post.

To our Safety Heroes: we are so proud of you! You learned, practiced, and grew in ways that will last a lifetime. But rememberโ€ฆ being a Safety Hero doesnโ€™t end here. It continues every time you wear a helmet, help someone in need, or remind others to stay safe.

Keep sharing what youโ€™ve learned and help make our community safer for everyone.

Thank you for an unforgettable summer with Santa Fe Fire & Rescue. Congratulations to all our 2026 Summer Safety Heroes!

โค๏ธ Stay safe, stay smart, and keep being heroes!f

โ˜€๏ธ Summer Safety Hero Week 9: Beat the Heat! ๐Ÿฅต๐Ÿ’ง
Summer fun is great, but too much heat can be dangerous! This week, kids will learn how to stay cool, recognize the signs of heat exhaustion, and know when to ask an adult for help.

โœ… This Weekโ€™s Challenge
๐Ÿ’ง Drink water throughout the day (donโ€™t wait until youโ€™re thirsty!)
๐Ÿงข Wear a hat and light-colored clothing when playing outside.
๐ŸŒณ Take breaks in the shade or indoors every 20โ€“30 minutes.
๐ŸŒก๏ธ Learn the signs of heat exhaustion:
o Heavy sweating
o Dizziness
o Headache
o Nausea
o Muscle cramps
o Feeling weak or tired

๐Ÿ†˜ Tell a trusted adult immediately if you or a friend starts feeling sick from the heat.

๐Ÿš’ Family Activity
Together, create a Heat Safety Plan:
Identify shady places to cool off.
Fill reusable water bottles before heading outside.
Practice taking โ€œcool down breaks.โ€
Talk about why you should never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle not even for a minute.

๐Ÿฆธ Summer Safety Hero Week 8: First Aid! ๐Ÿš‘

Accidents can happen anytime, but heroes know how to help! This week, kids will learn basic first aid skills, how to recognize emergencies, and when to get help from a trusted adult.

โœ… Find your home first aid kit
โœ… Learn the 3 Cโ€™s: Check, Call, Care
โœ… Practice putting on a bandage, and applying pressure.
โœ… Go through the items in your first aid kit with your family and learn what each item is used for and how to use it safely
โœ… Make sure every family member knows where the first aid kit is located

Donโ€™t have a first aid kit? Create one together as a family! Most basic first aid supplies can be found at Dollar Tree or Dollar General. Building a kit together is a great way to learn how to be prepared for emergencies.

Remember: Kids are not expected to be doctors, they are learning how to stay calm, get help, and provide simple care until an adult arrives.

๐ŸŽ Bonus! Free mini first aid kits will be handed out at the Summer Safety Heroes Banquet, courtesy of UTMB.

๐Ÿ“ธ Complete the challenge, share your hero moment, and show us how your family is prepared to help others!

๐ŸŽ† Fireworks Safety for a Safe & Happy 4th of July! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

As you celebrate Independence Day with family and friends, remember that fireworks can be dangerous if not used properly. Help keep the holiday fun and injury-free by following these important safety tips:

โœ… Always have an adult supervise fireworks use.
โœ… Keep a bucket of water or garden hose nearby.
โœ… Only use fireworks outdoors in a clear, open area.
โœ… Never relight a โ€œdudโ€ firework. Wait 20 minutes, then soak it with water.
โœ… Keep children and pets a safe distance away.
โœ… Never point or throw fireworks at people, animals, vehicles, or buildings.
โœ… Wear eye protection when lighting fireworks.
โœ… Dispose of used fireworks by soaking them in water before throwing them away.

๐Ÿšซ Never use fireworks while impaired.

Remember, sparklers can burn at temperatures over 1,200ยฐFโ€”hot enough to cause serious burns!

From all of us at Santa Fe Fire & Rescue, we wish you a safe, fun, and memorable Independence Day weekend. If you choose to use fireworks, please do so responsibly and always follow local laws and regulations.

๐ŸŽ‡ Celebrate freedom. Practice safety. Make great memories. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿš’

๐Ÿฆธโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿฆธโ€โ™‚๏ธ Calling All Local Businesses & Community Partners! ๐Ÿฆธโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿฆธโ€โ™€๏ธ

Santa Fe Fire & Rescue is looking for a sponsor to help cover the cost of our Summer Safety Hero shirts!

Throughout the summer, local children have been participating in our Safety Hero Program, completing weekly challenges focused on important safety topics such as water safety, fire safety, smoke alarms, calling 911, and more. These young heroes have worked hard to become safer, smarter, and more prepared members of our community.

At our upcoming Safety Hero Banquet, each participant will receive a commemorative Safety Hero t-shirt to celebrate their accomplishments.

โญ As a sponsor, your business logo will be featured on the shirts, showing your support for youth education and community safety. You will also be invited to the banquet and recognized at the banquet as a sponsor.

This is a great opportunity to support a positive program while gaining visibility within our community.

If your business or organization would like to sponsor the shirts or learn more, please send us a message or contact Santa Fe Fire & Rescue.

Thank you for helping us recognize and encourage the next generation of Safety Heroes! ๐Ÿš’โค๏ธ
