Preventing the next fall starts with making the home safer today.

Santa Fe Fire & Rescue is sharing this resource as part of our fall prevention education efforts.

There’s something about the shoes left behind on the bay floor when the tones drop.

A pair of boots. A pair of flip-flops. Nothing fancy, just a quiet reminder that someone was standing here living an ordinary moment when the call came in.

In seconds, comfort is traded for gear. Conversations stop. Meals get left behind. Plans get put on hold. And those shoes stay right where they were stepped out of while their owner climbs onto an apparatus and heads toward someone else’s worst moment.

To most people, they’re just shoes on a concrete floor.

To us, they tell a story.

They mean someone answered the call.
They mean someone ran toward what others were running from.
They mean service before self.

And the best sight of all is seeing those same shoes picked back up when everyone comes home safe. ❤️‍🔥🚒

The empty shoes on the bay floor are a reminder: when the tones drop, everything else can wait.

Santa Fe Fire & Rescue is currently responding to a structure fire on 28th Street.

Please avoid the area and YIELD to all incoming emergency apparatus and mutual aid units responding to the scene. Keep roadways and access points clear so crews can safely reach the incident.

Tonight, we put a little twist on family night! Our firefighters and their families spent the evening together getting CPR certified and learning lifesaving skills. ❤️
Because protecting our community starts at home, and you’re never too young or too old to learn how to save a life!
We’re proud to have families who not only support our first responders but are willing to learn how to become lifesavers themselves.

Today may not exactly feel like fall in Texas yet 😅, but it’s still the perfect time to talk about fall prevention!

Falls can happen in a split second, but a few simple changes around the home can make a big difference. Keep walkways clear, use good lighting, wear supportive non-slip shoes, use handrails, and consider safety modifications like grab bars or ramps when needed.

Our goal is simple: help our seniors stay independent, active, and safe all year long. ❤️

🍂 Fall Prevention 2026 is almost here! 🍂

Even if Southeast Texas is still pretending it’s July and hanging out in the high 90s, the calendar says fall is here! 😂🍁 We’re kicking off Fall Prevention 2026 on the first day of fall September 22!

Santa Fe Fire & Rescue is proud to partner with the Santa Fe Senior Citizens Council to encourage our seniors to stay active, improve balance, and have a little fun along the way!

From September 22 through October 29, attend Chair/Club Fitness on Tuesdays and Thursdays and/or Zumba Gold on Thursdays at the Thelma Webber Community Center and earn 1 raffle entry for every class you attend!

🏆 1st, 2nd & 3rd place prizes will be awarded Facebook live on Oct 29th.

And the fun doesn’t end when the contest does! Chair/Club Fitness and Zumba Gold are year-round programs offered through the Santa Fe Senior Citizens Council. The Fall Prevention contest is just a little extra motivation to get moving and try a class!

These classes are FREE with your Santa Fe Senior Citizens Council membership, which is only $20 per year.

What better way to welcome fall than by focusing on strength, balance, movement, and staying safe all year long?

Today, Santa Fe Fire & Rescue joins the nation in remembering the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

We honor the 343 FDNY firefighters who answered the call that morning and made the ultimate sacrifice, along with every victim, first responder, family member, and community forever changed by that day.

We remember their courage.
We honor their service.
We will never forget their sacrifice.

🏅 Life Saving Award 🏅

Presented to: David James Gray, Age 7

Today, Santa Fe Fire & Rescue proudly recognizes 7-year-old David James Gray with a Life Saving Award for an extraordinary act of courage, awareness, and quick thinking that helped save the life of his little brother, 4-year-old Caleb Gray.

David recognized that something was wrong when he saw Caleb struggling in the pool. Without hesitation, David acted. He pulled his little brother from the water and immediately got him to safety, allowing lifesaving CPR and emergency medical intervention to begin.

Caleb was transported by ambulance and spent two days in the hospital receiving care. Thanks to the quick actions of David, the intervention of those who provided CPR, and the medical professionals who cared for him, Caleb is now home safe with his family.

At just seven years old, David demonstrated a level of awareness and bravery that deserves to be recognized. He saw a problem, understood that his brother was in danger, and took action when every second mattered.

David isn’t just Caleb’s big brother.

He is Caleb’s hero.

Santa Fe Fire & Rescue is honored to recognize David James Gray for his courage, quick thinking, and lifesaving actions. His story is a powerful reminder that heroes don’t always wear a uniform—and sometimes, the smallest heroes can make the biggest difference.

David, today we celebrate you. Thank you for being brave. Thank you for acting. And most importantly, thank you for helping bring your little brother home.
