TWO SPOTS LEFT:

Join us on June 20–21, 2026 for an immersive Wet Plate Collodion Workshop and learn how to create your own tintype and ambrotype portraits using one of photography's earliest processes.

Often described as the original Polaroid, wet plate collodion photography requires participants to hand-coat glass or metal plates, make them light-sensitive, and expose them immediately in a large-format view camera. The result is a one-of-a-kind image with remarkable detail, character, and permanence.

Throughout the workshop, participants will explore the history of the collodion process and gain hands-on experience preparing, exposing, and developing their own photographs from start to finish.

Originally discovered by Frederick Scott Archer in the 1850s, the wet plate process helped transform photography into a thriving profession, with traveling photographers carrying mobile studios from town to town and making portraiture accessible to wider audiences.

Visit https://www.fotoforumsantafe.com/product-page/wet-plate-workshop to reserve your place and experience photography as it was practiced over 170 years ago.
