🌈 In Honor of Pride Month, Solace Wants to Share Warning Signs of Unhealthy Relationships in LGBTQ+ 🌈

Recognizing the signs of an unhealthy relationship can be challenging for all types of relationships. Often, popular media portrays unhealthy dynamics primarily in straight couples, making it even harder for those in LGBTQ+ relationships to identify red flags. However, acknowledging these signs is crucial.

Here are some warning signs to be aware of:

Excessive Jealousy: Feeling controlled or monitored by your partner.
Isolation: Attempts to cut you off from friends and family.
Threats of Outing: Using your identity against you to instill fear.
Lack of Respect for identity: Dismissing your feelings or opinions.
Manipulation: Using guilt or intimidation to control decisions.
Unequal Power Dynamics: One partner having more control over the relationship.
If you or anyone you know is experiencing these signs, it’s important to seek support.

Remember, you don’t have to go through this alone. 💖✨

Mental health affects everyone. Many men struggle with stress, anxiety, depression, and other challenges but may find it difficult to talk about them. Seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness.

This month, let's encourage open conversations, check in on one another, and remind the men in our lives that their mental health matters.

💙 It's okay to talk. It's okay to ask for help.

If you need assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out to us:

Summer brings more time with friends, new experiences, and social situations that are chances to look out for each other.

Whether we are at a gathering, out in our community, or heading somewhere new, safety is something we can all take part in building by checking in with our friends, staying with people we trust, and having an idea about our boundaries ahead of time.

Ya sea en una reunión, por ahí en nuestra comunidad o en algún lugar nuevo, la seguridad es algo que todas y todos podemos fomentar: mantente en contacto con tus amistades, anda con gente en la que confías y ten claros tus límites desde un principio.

Parties can be a great way to connect, but knowing a few basics ahead of time makes a real difference. Have a plan for how you are getting there and getting home, talk with friends beforehand about how you can have each others' backs, and look out for anyone who seems uncomfortable or unsafe.

When we look after one another we can make sure everyone has a good time.
Visit ItStartsWithUsNM.org for more resources.

On Wednesday, members of Solace were fortunate enough to attend an Eloqui workshop on public speaking. The coaches were knowledgeable and well-informed, and our staff significantly improved their speaking skills in just one day. Thank you, Eloqui, for this fantastic opportunity. We highly recommend reaching out to Eloqui if your organization could benefit from their training.

Consent is not just a conversation for one-on-one situations. It applies everywhere, including parties, group hangouts, cookouts, and public events. Checking in with others, respecting when someone says no (or does not say yes), and speaking up when something feels off are all part of how we create safer communities together.

Find out more at ItStartsWithUsNM.org.

Bold text overlaid on the image reads: "Consent matters at every gathering, every time." The website ItStartsWithUsNM.org and the hashtag appears in a dark banner at the top of the graphic.
