Adaptive Sports in New Mexico Adaptive sports in the Southwest are popular because of its blue skies and generally warm day temperatures.

Yet it is the warm feel of the people involved in the Adaptive Sports Program that make outdoor recreation in the Southwest the absolute best! Since 1985, the Adaptive Sports Program has offered safe and supportive adaptive sports lessons for adults and children (five years & older) with a wide array of disabilities. Lessons take place in various locations around the beautiful state of New Mexico.

HUGE thank you to the awesome Caldera team and our amazing ASPNM athletes, volunteers, and staff who came together today for our inaugural adaptive fly fishing event! Hopefully the first of many at this true national treasure!

We have so many people to thank for making this year’s Snow Ball the most successful fundraiser in ASPNM history. We’ll be sharing our gratitude all week, and we’re kicking things off with our incredible keynote speaker, Alana Nichols, PLY.

Born and raised in Farmington, NM, Alana is a world-class, multi-sport Paralympian, advocate, and ASPNM alum whose journey reflects the power of adaptive sports, and the programs like ASPNM that help athletes reach these heights. Her resilience, honesty, and passion resonated deeply with everyone in the room, leaving a lasting impact on our community.

Thank you, Alana, for helping make the evening so meaningful!

Today we’re proud to recognize the inaugural National Adaptive Sports Day.

It’s a chance to celebrate what adaptive sports make possible, not just across the country, but right here at home.

At ASPNM, that shows up year-round.

On the mountain, where skiing and snowboarding create freedom, confidence, and those can’t-miss smiles.

On the wall, where athletes find strength, problem-solve, and push past what they thought was possible.

On the water, where kayaking, sailing, and paddleboarding bring a different kind of freedom, calm, and adventure.

Different places, same purpose, access and opportunity for all.

Adaptive sports aren’t just about getting outside. They’re about independence, community, and showing up fully as yourself.

We’re grateful to do this work alongside an incredible community of athletes, volunteers, and supporters.

Today, and every day, we celebrate you.

On the eve of our 2026 Snow Ball, we find ourselves reflecting with deep gratitude on the community that makes this work possible. To our sponsors, your support goes far beyond this one evening. You are opening doors, creating access, and helping ensure that children and adults with disabilities across New Mexico have the opportunity to experience the joy, confidence, and freedom that come through adaptive sports.

Because of you, our athletes are able to get on the mountain, on the water, and out into the world with the equipment, instruction, and encouragement they deserve. You are not just supporting an event, you are sustaining a mission and changing lives in a very real way.

As we gather tomorrow night, please know how much your partnership means to all of us at ASPNM. We are truly grateful and proud to celebrate alongside you.

Thank you all!

We want to send out a big thank you to Nusenda Credit Union for supporting our adaptive rock climbing program through their Community Rewards program.

This program gives individuals with disabilities the chance to try something new, build strength and confidence, and be part of a community that celebrates every climb up the wall. We’re incredibly grateful for partners like Nusenda who help make these experiences possible.
