New Earth Orchids

Here are two first bloom seedlings from my cross RM-1904 Pot. Orange Sands (Apricot Sands 'Outstanding' AM/AOS X Blc. Orange Butter 'Melinda'). Pictures are labeled with the names.

Peter T. Lin recently released a grex of Sc. Beaufort made with 4N (tetraploid) parents. NEO has bloomed 6 of these so far. These are pictured here along with a 4N plant derived from thhe cloning of Sc. Beaufort 'Hartford's Elmwood' AM/AOS.
We have begun to breed with these new 4N forms. They appear to breed easily as pod or pollen parent. The first of these crosses will be going to the lab shortly.

It has been awhile since I last posted. Seems life got in the way of my sharing my results of using Pot. Shaw Yuan Gold 'O-2' AM/AOS. The cross shown here is RM-1110 Pot. Ellibirdieve (Haw Yuan Gold 'O-2' FCC/AOS X Shinfong Little Love 'Little Goldfish')
Parents are not pictured here.

This the largest unifoliate Cattleya I have bred. This is Pot. Shining Gold ‘Super Moon’. The plant is 69 cm tall from the top of the medium with a leaf width of 12 cm. It is largest plant from my remake of this cross.

The photo is of one of my cross RM-1311 Pot. Scarlet's Treasure 'Gold Coin' (Pot. Haw Yuan Gold 'O-2' AM/AOS X Pot. Apricot Sands 'Scarlet O'Hara') We have flowered a few of these and this one and another yellow one are the best we have seen.

This is my cross RM-1008 Pot. Memoria Valerie Thompson (Burana Beauty 'Burana' HCC/AOS X Haw Yuan Gold 'O-2' FCC/RHS-AM/AOS). The first photo is of the parent Pot. Burana Beauty 'Burana' HCC/AOS. The 31 other pictures are of all of the ones I bloomed from the cross.

Some of thhe progeny show red splashing, several of the yellow ones show subtle yellow with darker yellow splashing. Flowers were relatively small and on some cultivars a bit crowded.

One other thing, I named the cross for my sister passed away from liver cancer at the age of 60. She was the earth mother of my family and fittingly had a green burial in the woods of southeastern Washington.

The picture is of the relatively unknown Rlc. (Blc.) Mamie Fouraker 'Herbrita' HCC/AOS. it is a cross of C. (Lc.) Grandee 'Jules Furthman' AM/AOS X Rlc. (Blc.) Primate 'Daffodil' AM/AOS. B. O. Bracey made the cross and Fouraker registered it in 1959. In spite of the C. (Lc.) Grandee parent, Roc. (Blc.) Mamie Fouraker 'Herbrita' HCC/AOS does not cripple.

To continue my series on Pot. Haw Yuan Gold 'O-2' FCC/RHS-AM/AOS, here are two other crosses with only a few progeny. The first one is RM-1002 Pot. Luna Gold (Pot Haw Yuan Gold 'O-2' FCC/RHHS-AM/AOS X Pot Luna Jaune 'Selebration' AM/AOS ) and the second is RM-1019 Pot January's Gold (January's Child 'Orange Chiffon' AM/AOS X Haw Yuan Gold 'O-2' FCC/RHS-AM/AOS ).
Unfortunately, I do not have a photo of Pot Luna Jaune 'Selebration' AM/AOS. Note the spelling of thhe cultivar name. I originally saw this spelled with a "C". Only learned that it is spelled with an "S".

To continue my posting of results using Pot. Haw Yuan Gold 'O-2' AM/AOS-FCC/RHS, these are the results of my cross RM-927 Pot. Mildred Beatrice Midgett (Pot. Haw Yuan Gold 'O-2' AM/AOS-FCC/RHS X Beau's Springtime 'Daffodil'). The cross is named for my mother.

This is my cross RM-922 Pot. Diamonds and Gold (Shin Shiang Diamond X Haw Yuan Gold). The first 2 pictures are the parents. the next 23 are of RM-922 and the last 5 are of RM-926 the reciprocal cross.

The picture is of Lc. Colorama 'The Clown' X Pot. Hisako Akatsuka. This cross has not been registered. This plant was apparently cloned. I do not remember exactly where I purchased it. Does anyone in the group know who the originator of the cross is? I am willing to register the cross if the originator can be found and gives permission. I have checked with Mori Akatsuka and he did not make the cross. The Pot. Hisako Akatsuka was made by Miyamoto in 1985.
Any help would be appreciated.

RM-816 Pot. Shining Gold was the second cross I flowered from my breeding with Pot. Haw Yuan Gold 'O-2' AM/AOS. This cross was also done by Nishiguchi and registered just prior to my blooming my first ones. I should note, I do not know whether Nishiguchhi used the 'o-2' AM/AOS cultivar or the 'YK2' GM/WOC-FCC/RHS cultivar for his cross.

This is the first cross I registered with Pot. Haw Yuan Gold. It is RM-815 Pot. Santa Fe Gold. This is a cross of Pot. Haw Yuan Gold 'O-2' AM/AOS X John Passander 'Goldilocks'.

Joe & Karen Lankton received an AM/AOS on Pot. Santa Fe Gold 'Omaha'. Joe had purchased the plant as an unbloomed seedling in 2013. Their plant had yellow sepals and petals veined gold and yellow lip overlaid magenta. A very nice cultivar from this cross.

The picture is of Blc. Edgar Foster Daniels 'Falstaff' form my cross RM-1061 Blc. Taiwan Yellow Ball 'H.T.' X C. Horace 'Maxima' AM/AOS. I posted a complete gallery of all of the cultivars I bloomed from this very successful cross. some cultivars will be available in 2023. These are available by division only and have not been cloned.

The picture is of Pot. John Passander 'Salmon' AM/AOS. We have mothher divisions of thie fine cultivar. It is not cloned. If interested, enquire by PM.

This is a Pot. Scarlet’s Treasure on its first bloom. This is my cross RM-1311 Pot. Haw Yuan Gold ‘O-2’ AM/AOS X Apricot Sands ‘Scarlet O’Hara’.

Here are the results of my make of Pot. Al Nowak's Dream (Pot. Haw Yuan Gold 'O-2' AM/SOS X C. Horace 'Maxima' AM/AOS). The cross was also made by Hawaii Hybrids and registered by Al Nowak just prior to my attempting to register the cross. Again the first two pictures are of the parents. All of the progeny I bloomed are shown here.

Here are the results of my cross RM-1061 Blc. Edgar Foster Daniels (Blc. Taiwan Yellow Ball 'H.T.' X C. Horace 'Maxima' AM/AOS). This is another in my series of crosses I have done with C. Horace 'Maxima' AM/AOS. The first two photos are of the parents.

Picture is of the first orchid that I had awarded. It is Blc. Destiny 'Sundrop' AM/AOS. It was awarded in 1973 in Los Angeles.

It was pictured for two or three years in a row in the Japanese annual book of the best Cattleyas.

Take a look at this. 3 Inflorescences emerged from the apex of this Cattleya hybrid! It isC Orchidom Brabant ‘Ocelot’ HCC/AOS X Guar. aurantiaca (red spotted form). This is the first time I have seen this in 50 years. Anyone else seen this before?

RM-702 Pot. Bonnie Petry is another example of my breeding with C. Horace 'Maxima' AM/AOS. The other parent is Pot. Heritage Spirit (Blc American Heritage X Pot. Free Spirit). Please note, I have pictured all of the plants I bloomed from the cross. these were not selected cultivars from the cross.

This post continues my series on the my use of C. Horace 'Maxima' AM/AOS. In this post, I will show you the results John Passander and I obtained with C. Horace 'Maxima' AM/AOS bred with Pot. Fort Fortune 'A1' (Sc. Beaufort '4N' X Blc Fortune 'Golden Throne' HCC/AOS). Unfortunatley, I do not have a picture of the Pot. Fort Fortune parent. It was similar to Pot. Mem. Jim Nickou. This cross is RM-9703 Pot. John Passander.

John Passander, the orginator, crossed Blc. Orange Butter (Blc. Buttercup X Blc Nuggett) with C. Horace 'Maxima' AM/AOS. I registered the cross as Blc. Maxima's Effect. I have remade the cross 2 or 3 times.
