Groups to sue Bitterroot Forest over vague logging project 06/17/2026

The Forest Service is playing a shell game with its sprawling road network by claiming to remove roads that it already decommissioned years ago — essentially double dipping to make the project look better than it is. Building roads and using others that shouldn't even be there to begin with harms habitat for elk and trout and will hinder the natural return of grizzly bears to the Bitterroot ecosystem.

Groups to sue Bitterroot Forest over vague logging project Five conservation organizations sent a 60-day notice of their intent to sue the U.S. Forest Service and Fish and Wildlife Service if the Bitterroot National Forest doesn’t stop and reconsider how the 20-year Bitterroot Front project would affect threatened species.

Federal raid on Catron County property after wolf deaths finds traps, records say 06/17/2026

Such a rare peak into the investigation of Mexican gray wolf killings in Catron County. The details of these grisly murders demonstrate that, despite the fact that lobos have been an important and iconic part of New Mexican landscapes for millenia, they are still actively and gruesomely persecuted.

Trapping is beyond inhumane and impossibly cruel. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service investigated the deaths of two federally protected Mexican wolves – a five year-old father and a yearling son from the Sawtooth Pack – who were caught in private traps on private land in two separate incidents in the spring of 2025.

The public outcry and formal investigation into these heartbreaking lobo killings are proof that wolves are valued as native carnivores and that our bedrock environmental laws like the Endangered Species Act shall not be flouted.
