Once upon a time we sold hair products! Indeed, our brand has transitioned more and more towards simply skincare, which has become my expertise as I have delved into dermatology. Last Autumn I shared a variation on the original hair rinse recipe with you via the blog/Newsletter.
(aka what I use in lieu of conditioner).
When I embarked on my zero waste journey in 2014, launching and looking at all my sources of plastic consumption, I asked myself what conditioner was doing for my hair. I realized it was just adding gunk to it !
I know some gals with super curly, frizzzy hair have a harder time taming their hair compared to my straight, pretty-easy-to-manage hair — nonetheless, I invite you to try this recipe out post-shampoo and see how you like it:
1/4 cup nettle leaf
4 TBSP dried lavender
3 TBSP dried rosemary
3 to 3 1/2 cups apple cider vinegar

last Sunday I got to see my little cousin- he's 10 years old and we were supposed to watch my other cousin play water-polo. On our way there the little one made some comments about a magnolia tree, and then some rose bushes. At that moment I knew he had a keen interest in landscapes.
So, instead of watching the game we spent two hours walking around the school yard looking at every plant and tree we noticed. I talked about the medicinal properties of olive leaf, the edible-nature of lilies, the square stem of plants in the Laminaceae family like sage and mint... we ended up crouching in the grass.
If you're a forager, you know that grass isn't just grass ! We stopped to talk about the relieving nature of plantain...
I've been teaching herbalism since 2011 and I've never seen a little kid so interested in all things green. How fun 💚

👉 did you know most modern bathtubs are made of acrylic (aka petroleum . aka toxic) ☠️
that’s extremely problematic because when our skin is warm our pores are open and we absorb synthetics much more easily 🤨

Cast iron tubs are frequently found in older homes but you gotta watch out - some leach heavy metals 😡

Stainless steel troughs have gotten popular, but they can be uncomfortable and are sometimes sealed as two parts with synthetic rubber.

Then there’s wood … 🪵 which you’d want uncoated and therefore better suited as an outdoor tub.

🌳 As much as giant redwoods enchant me on a walk, I enjoy the comforting presence of 'coastal live oaks' — 𝘘𝘶𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘶𝘴 𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘪𝘧𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘢 — here in Santa Cruz, CA.
Their symbolism of wisdom, strength and endurance shines in our oak savannas here.

Their foliage provide a nice springy mattress to pitch a tent on ⛺ keeping the ambient temperature very welcoming — cooling in the summer, and somewhat warming in the winter.
I resided in a tent under an oak grove in Portugal for the month of August in 2014 and never got too hot ;)
